有一次，有個朋友不好意思地問我：Sorry, can you borrow me some money?

他的原意就是：「你可不可以借錢給我。」但這裡的 borrow 的用法錯了，應該說：Can I borrow some money?

​或者：Can you lend me some money?

雖然在中文的語境沒有分別，都是用「借」，但在英文裡面，「跟別人借」才是 borrow ，但「借給別人」不是 borrow，而是 lend。

例如，外面風很大，你想問朋友借一件外套，千萬不要說成：Can you borrow your jacket to me? 應該說：May I borrow your jacket, please?

如果你想對方借給你，你應該說：Sorry, do you mind to lend me your jacket?
