- Which scheme do we foil first? The spores or the rockets? - I asked.
- Both; we don't have much time until the rockets go off and if we prioritize them, everyone in the dome will be dead by the time we're done - Anthony quickly replied.
- I have an idea, but it's dangerous - Einstein started with audible concern. He didn't want us to get in more trouble, especially since he was hoping to redeem himself as our caretaker.
- We're already in grave danger, so tell us - Sebastian commented.
- We help Lim with fighting the spores and get him to stop the rockets in return - Einstein suggested.
- There's no way for that to work out. He won't agree with us on anything - Amber sighed.
- We could tell him that his empire will crumble if he doesn't act - Claudius proposed and we accepted this version.
The main challenge was reaching Lim's cable car. Even though it was sluggish compared to us, climbing onto a moving vehicle was difficult, especially with people constantly running around. It was a real frenzy, with everyone rushing to the emergency exits. Whilst dodging the human stampede, we located the cable car thanks to Lim's hazmat suit, which was clearly visible through the vehicle's windows. There were no stations nearby, so we had to get creative.
We wanted to use a bioengineered blue mushroom to climb onto the cable car. Firstly, hiding underneath its large cap, we waited for the cable car to arrive. While waiting, we saw the purple fungi sprouting from the ground. The overall view was unnerving to say the least. Once the cable car was close to our hideout, we climbed onto the cap, which was pretty tricky, considering how we weren't professional climbers.
There wasn't much to grab on the mushroom's stem, which is why the climb was so challenging. I almost fell off a few times before Anthony, having reached the top first, pulled me up. It didn't take long for Lim to notice us, but we didn't give him time to react. Instead, Claudius broke through the door and we leaped into the vehicle.
- Leave me alone! Do you want me to push you out of the DTV?! - Lim exclaimed right as we entered the cable car - What else do you have left to destroy?!
- What do you mean by this? - Sebastian suddenly asked.
- What do I mean by this?! What do I mean by this?!! - Lim repeated his question in anger - You destroyed my experiments, my jungle, my corporation and my beautiful doomsday weapon! What else can you possibly wreck?!99Please respect copyright.PENANAHXcL7xbdqb
- Your doomsday weapon was demolished by the thieves, not us - Claudius remarked.
- I don't care!!! - Lim yelled at us.
- We're not here to destroy anything, we're here to talk - Einstein started.
- Talk about what?! About the destruction you've caused?! - Lim was still furious - I should have expected your betrayal since day one!
- Umm... today is day one - Sebastian added quietly.
- That doesn't matter...! - Lim shouted.
- There may be a way to prevent your company from being completely reduced to rubble, but we'll need your help - Einstein ignored his outrage.
- Oh, now you're talking about help? - Lim made us think that he calmed down, but that wasn't true - I DON'T WANT YOUR STUPID HELP!!!
- But your empire will fall apart if you don't act! - Amber tried to convince him.
- And you will come down with it!!! - Lim continued shouting - Your country, your loved ones, your lives...!
- Lockdown initiated - A mechanical voice announced.
- This is simply cruel - Anthony responded - You're going to kill off the people who served you since the very beginning? Just to get rid of us?
- Exactly! - Lim replied, unbothered.
- You know that all the great Chinese spies will die if you don't act? - I started anxiously - Your business partners won't be happy when they hear that - I meant the Chinese military and intelligence agency.
- Oh... Uhh... - Lim stammered. I caught him off guard.
- All of them could escape if you didn't initiate the lockdown - I continued with newfound confidence - but you have to sacrifice them in rage...!
- Uhm... What is your proposal? - Lim softened.
- We can assist you with getting rid of the spores and in return, you'll stop the rockets - Einstein finished for me.
Lim thought for a moment before replying with a simple:
- OK.
We happily led him out of the cable car on the nearest station, which was conveniently placed near a lab. Lim allowed us in with his special card that granted him access to anything in the facility, as the CEO. He was also able to flawlessly control all of the important systems.
- What do you need me to do? - Lim asked.
- We need to create a large amount of antitoxin and spread it through the ventilation system, which we don't have access to - Einstein summarised.99Please respect copyright.PENANA8pG9hpkOVy
- Okay, let's get working... - Lim paused - Wait... there is no antitoxin.
- You made a deadly weapon with nothing to counter it? - Arika was surprised.
- That's the whole point! If there's no cure against it, it's even deadlier! - Lim replied nonchalantly.
- What about the vaccine I've been injected with? - I asked.
- It was TS-18 - Einstein replied, having memorised the vaccine's name.
- That stuff only exists in liqiud form - Lim sighed.
- May I interrupt? - Sebastian asked - What does TS stand for?
- Top Secret - Lim rolled his eyes.
- Anyway, we can create something new based off TS-18 - Claudius suggested.
- Fine, if it will save BIORBITAL - Lim sighed again and we got to work.
With Arika's programming skills and Lim's supervision, it was much easier to create the perfect antitoxin. Lim knew the most about his precious bioweapon and he helped us to undo its effects. After some five minutes, we were ready to start producing the antitoxin. The only problem was that it will take a while.
- Who are those criminals? - Lim asked out of the blue.
- We don't know, but they mixed up some new chemical and promptly ran away upon noticing our presence - Anthony didn't reveal that we've dealt with the Perseids before, not wanting to blow our cover.
- That's no good... They're stealing BIORBITAL's hard work! - Lim hissed.
- Exactly! - Arika added - It seems like our antidote is ready to go - She was monitoring the production of our new antitoxin.
- So let's release it - Lim rushed us. With little to no hesitation, Arika pressed the "RELEASE" button.
We heard the quiet flow of gas through the ventilation shafts. Our unit came over to the nearest window to observe the effects. A yellowish mist now contrasted the deadly purple one. It didn't take long before the two began annihilating each other, just as we have hoped. The purple fungi started withering and the tiny dots in the purple mist (which were the airborne spores) started fading.
- Wow... - Amber gasped.
Lim smiled behind us, seeing that his company was just given a second chance. If we could, we would have come up with another way, but without Lim, we wouldn't have the tools. The good news was that it was time to finish his end of the bargain.
- Okay, now it's your turn to help us - Einstein started fiercely, which wasn't usual for him - Call off the rockets.
- Oh, you thought that I'd actually do that? - Lim chuckled - I'm no fairytale character; I'll still do my thing. You can watch as your country ends.
- That's not fair! We saved your company! - Arika exclaimed, approaching our group.
- Life isn't fair - Lim let out an ominous laugh before running away.
We obviously came over to chase him down and he ran over to the cable car, closing the door as swiftly as possible. Before any of us could smash our war through, he set off towards a previously unseen emergency exit, which was the only one left open.
We had thwarted one scheme, but we had even less time to foil the other one. This wasn't looking good at all.
