We couldn't let Lim Yazhu run away, because that would give BIORBITAL a second chance to develop an even deadlier bioweapon than the one detonated by the Perseids. Even more concerning, we still had the rockets to deal with, which will probably be launched in a few minutes, because as we've learned during our previous missions, setting up a rocket and refueling it takes a while. Still, it was a short while.
- We need to capture that guy and force him to shut the rockets down! - Einstein commanded.
- But he won't do it, no matter what! - Anthony replied, following him closely.
- That's why I said "force" - Einstein continued.
Our plan was to somehow block the emergency exit, forcing Lim to stop or turn back, at which point he'd be at a dead end. It was just there wasn't an object large enough to barricade the whole exit and closing it manually was out of the question, since only Lim could do that by now. The only good idea that crossed our minds was bringing in another cable car to prevent Lim's vehicle from reaching the exit in the first place.85Please respect copyright.PENANAnKZySz8AIX
It didn't take long to locate a DTV, as people were rushing over to the very same emergency exit, since the other ones were closed during the lockdown. They didn't know that the spores have faded and there was no reason to evacuate. This chaos gave us an advantage, as we saved time thanks to finding a cable car almost instantly. We wasted half a minute on running and busting into the vehicle, shocking the already stressed scientists.
- Don't kill us, we didn't do anything evil! - one of them begged.
- We're not here to murder anyone; we'd never want to do that - Einstein calmed him down.
- We need your cable car to stop that egoist from escaping alone and leaving you to die, because that's what he's doing - Arika added.
- Lim's leaving us behind? - another scientist grumped - We've done so much for his company and he's locking us up in here in return?!
- Exactly! - I played along.
At this point, I noticed that Anthony, Amber and Sebastian refused to come with us.
- What's going on? - Einstein asked them.
- Someone needs to capture the Perseids while you deal with Lim - Anthony whispered to him, so that the scientists won't panic.
- I'd rather keep us together, but the situation is special. Go! - Einstein instructed them and Anthony's group left us behind for now, hopefully to return later on.
- Anyhow, we'll need to hijack this thing so that we can prevent Lim from escaping - Arika calmly informed the scientists. She sounded like a stewardess talking about the drinks available aboard a plane, not about taking over a vehicle to stop a madman.
- Fine - a confused scientist shrugged.
With this, Arika came over to the driver's area and tried to hack her way past the built-in speed limit. I wanted to help her with my piloting skills, but to no avail.
- Why don't they allow this vehicle to go faster? - Arika was frustrated - What if there's an avalanche behind the cable car and everyone dies because it's slower than a snail?!
- Yeah, this is stupid - I commented - A similar thing would occur if there was a bioweapon deployed nearby...85Please respect copyright.PENANAY14gYxPPlD
Meanwhile, Claudius asked the scientists for advice, since they were the ones who were using the DTVs on a daily basis. Luckily, they revealed the issue: there was a special lock on the hanger that prevented the whole cable car from ever reaching high speds. All we had to do was break the lock. That was a lot of time gone down the drain!
Claudius subsequently climbed onto the roof and used his modified support arm to crack the lock, dropping it onto the ground afterwards. With this, Arika and I were able to finally accelerate the vehicle, since it no longer had a speed limit. It didn't take long before we caught up with Lim, who was surprised and annoyed at the same time by our third attempt to thwart him.
He made a pretty peculiar move: he ran over to the opposite side of his cable car and pushed. As it turned out, he was trying to make the vehicle swing and hit us along the way, which it unfortunately did. Arika and I had to take cover as the front window was smashed by the incoming cable car. When the dust settled, Lim was face to face with his angry scientists.
- You betrayed us! - one of them exclaimed upon seeing his boss.
- You left us to rot while you escape with all your money! - another one joined in, followed by many others.
Lim just stood in place and desperately tried to reach the exit, but I had a feeling that it was too late for him. Amidst the havoc, Einstein heard some worrying screams through the walkie-talkie.
- What's that? - Claudius asked.
- Something bad is going on - Einstein muttered and tried to contact Anthony - Can anyone hear me?! What on Earth is going on over there?!
Instead of a proper response, we just heard garbled screams and yelps, interrupted by a few audible words.
- Dawn, you...! - it was Sebastian. It seemed like he and the others got into a fight with the Perseids and hearing the screams of our friends, it was clear who was winning.
- We have to go RIGHT NOW! - Einstein told us in a hurry.
- What about Lim? - Arika asked.
- Don't worry, we'll deal with our horrible boss - one of the scientists cheerfully informed us.
With this, we were able to leave the cable cars behind. The main problem was that we didn't know our allies whereabouts, only a basic direction in which they went, which was to the left of the cable car. We split up but maintained a distance at which we could still hear each other. This way, we'd search a larger area in less time.
It didn't take long before we found footsteps that likely belonged to our friends. Some of them were obstructed by the decaying purple fungi, but we still saw a clear trail. Following it led us to an entrance of some kind. It was a dark, tunnel-like entrance that honestly looked pretty uncanny.85Please respect copyright.PENANAYpxD3K6B0z
- You reckon that they went here? - Arika asked.
- It's the pefrect place for a kidnapping: dark, spooky and far away from other people - Claudius responded.
- I guess we have no choice; the footsteps clearly lead here - I sighed.
- No, I can't put you in anymore danger, this is simply too much! - Einstein groaned - I'll go first!
Without waiting for our response, Einstein bravely entered the tunnel, after telling us to stay back until he confrims that it is a safe spot. As soon as we no longer saw him due to the darkness, a shadowy figure quickly emerged behind him and pulled him deeper into the tunnel. It was probably one of the Perseids and judging by the figure's size, most likely Rill Gomana.
Without hesitation, we followed Einstein into the tunnel, even though he told us not to do so. We wanted to save him.85Please respect copyright.PENANAvGz9qOfd0K
Arika whipped up a flashlight which helped us see in the dark. The first thing we saw was Rill with a creepy smile, carrying a horrified Einstein. Dawn soon joined him along with Alia, another member of the Perseids who escaped from the Hyperspace on the rocket a few months ago. However, we didn't know that she also reached the biodome.
It didn't take long for the Perseids to surround us. With no escape left, we could only hope for the scientists to capture Lim as our adversaries forced us deeper into the all-encompasing darkness...
