Ari opened the door to the basement, Asher by her side. Asher quite liked standing there with her, considering the fact that he liked her a lot. Ari found it comfortable, but not in that way. Or so she thought. She was still figuring out if she trusted Asher, better yet liked him. She didn't know much about love. She never loved anyone outside of her family. She knew something was different, but what?22Please respect copyright.PENANAf4ZprsaHjK
"OK," Asher whispered, "you should be able to go in without being seen."
"Roger," she said. She took a step onto the stairs in the doorway. Asher grabbed her hand, which startled her and made her head snap back toward him.
"Just . . ." he said, "be careful, OK?" They shared a moment of staring into each other's eyes, then Ari decided she'd had enough.
She rolled her eyes and continued walking down the stairs. She approached the giant power source with a glint in her eye. "Look at you," she said. "That is one heck of a power source right there."
She examined it closely, but not too closely. Nothing interesting about it. It was just a regular old power source.
"What's so special about this?" she asked herself.
Suddenly, the basement door opened and people started going down the stairs. Ari reacted too fast and ducked behind the power source, her hand touching its wires.
She felt a bolt of energy rush through her fingers, up her arms, and into her heart. Pain struck her, and she cried out.
Ari's world went dark.
