An Ode to a Possible Soulmate

Without so much as a touch

The child within me had wandered

Into a field of green, where happiness

Resided, especially in myself

And not within the people around me.

At last some peace that has fallen unto

Deaf ears and an open mind.

Content and akin to contempt

I'm stepping in and out of wormholes

Inside potholes in the ever so torn up

Streets that have raised me.

I see the sun of the summer behind me

And opulent dresses of the winter as I

Saunter off into yet another cold season

At least this time I don't feel lonely.

Unless lonely for another counts

And then I am lonely for you

I am longing to touch your head

To my breast and let our hearts fall silent

If that were a thing --

If soft, candlelit glowing hearts existed

In each of us for each other

And the sheets didn't grow too cold

Even with the existence of others.

Oh to love one but to love another

To love oneself enough not to suffer

To close the door and the shudders

And to rest your eyes appreciating

Your lover--

Who maybe you hold and maybe you don't

Maybe you're soulmates and

Complete one another

But never together in order not to ruin

Each other
