Dignity

Sometimes it's better to

Run them over with a car

In your own mind

Instead of loving them

And letting their memory grow

Like weeds in the graveyard

Where they flourish.

Pretty little dandelion thoughts...

Sometimes it's better to

Walk away instead of cultivating

A camaraderie of hearts

Because then everyone else

Will see just how desperately

You need them except you

And when their girlfriends

Are still there

You fall victim to being the fool.

And walking away feels like chalk

In your mouth when you didn't want it

To be there but it is

Because sadness and disappointment

Feel as bleak as an empty stomach

Full of antacids.

And the frown on your face is to

Make sure you don't cry

Because “you're better than that”

You want to be strong so you

Can keep your dignity.

This is all about dignity

And when you view open relationships

As a security blanket, an excuse to

Not be alone even if you're unhappy.

So you fill the void, hook up, and at least

You're still not alone…

But I'd rather be alone than

Seemingly pretend I'm happy

I’d rather taste the pain and

Hold my own hand for life’s short while

It would feel better than migraines

And heart pain and sleepless nights

Staring at the ceiling

Wondering where have you gone

What have you done

Why is your life like this

It wasn't then, “I was so strong then”

Why aren't I now?

I would stay and hold your hand

But I don't have the strength to love

Those who will not love me as such

Groupie love doesn't come cheap

It isn't just based on all hands, touch...

But baby you aren't a rockstar you’d never understand to begin with

And my patience--

Is running thin and weak.

The dance is over

The song is done

It's so FUCKING sad you couldn't be the one…
