Feel

I look around and what do I see,

I feel the eyes staring at me,

I try to run and get away,

But they follow me each and every day.

I try explaining it,

My anxiety an ever-growing pit,

But he won't understand,

He never can.

Using visuals as best as I could,

Seeing if he understood,

But he just thought of it like just like my cough,

"If you believe it will go, just shake it off."

He didn't understand why I couldn't be like him,

Social, optimistic, goes out on a whim,

And I explained it as best as I could,

That I'd have to bite my nails like I always would.

They can't see where I'm coming from,

They think I just sit like a bum,

But the truth is, I can't help myself,

I'll have to sit like a doll forgotten on a shelf.

It's simple really,

But they won't understand,

Why I avoid eye contact,

Why I fiddle with my hands.

They could never understand,

The wait for the end of the meal,

They need a walk in my shoes,

See how social anxiety feels.
