She sat in the small room, combing her wavy auburn hair and humming softly. The door banged open and two men wearing black dress attire strode in. One of the men, the younger of the two, was holding shackles in his hands. She stood up with a small gasp, her long, simplistic white dress swaying with the sudden movement. The younger man stepped into the light and stared at her with icy blue eyes that were framed by light hair. His sharp jaw clenched and he glanced at her hands pointedly. She extended her slim, pale hands. He shackled her right wrist then paused and stared at her left wrist. On the inside of it was a small tree. The man shackled her other hand and shoved her out the door. She was light and slim, so the two men had no trouble manhandling her out onto the dirt road. She caught the eye of the older man and he became entranced by her eyes, which were amber by the pupil, but some green, brown, and grey radiated out to the white. The younger man pointedly shoved her forward and she stumbled and caught her feet on the hem of her dress, splashing mud along the bottom. The other man shook his head to clear his mind, his dark hair flopping over his tan forehead and brown eyes as he did so.
The men continued dragging her toward their destination. At some point during the walk, her shoulders started shaking with sobs. She continued trembling and crying until her eyes couldn't produce any more tears. Then she opened her mouth and began to sing in a voice that her mother had called angelic and her father had said was "prettier than any bird song." Her voice was clear, strong but hushed. About half of her skirt was covered in mud now, but she no longer cared. Instead she straightened her thin shoulders and raised her head. The wind blew her hair into her face, strands getting stuck to her cheeks, which were still a bit damp with tears, but she continued singing. Her left hand, the one that bore the tree on the wrist, clenched and a small silver ring that depicted two hands holding a heart that was topped with a crown dug into her ring finger. She continued singing, no longer caring where they were going. Gradually the shackles became looser and looser and she slipped her hands out of them and they fell to the forest floor with a muffled clink. Both men stopped and exchanged panicked expressions. She brushed her hair away from her face, still singing, and turned to face them. Both men gasped and suddenly collapsed.
