I didn't know what was wrong, which was unusual, especially when I was dealing with Alex.

The girl’s sleek, dark hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, swinging along her back as she walked. Her eyes were light and kind usually, their colors confusing me every time. She said they were hazel, but if I looked, I could find almost the entire rainbow in their depths. They were soft and open eyes, and I knew that I could trust them. Trust her.

But today, something was off.

The way Alex walked was different, anxious. She usually had a happy bounce in her step, but today she walked with a nervous clip. Her rainbow eyes darted around like two colorful minnows, searching for something unbeknownst to me.

When I came up to greet her, Alex started so badly that she fell against the wall with a large thud. She trembled for only a moment before managing to grasp a hold of her emotions, at least physically.

Her eyes were haunted, flighty. I tried to follow her gaze more than once, but each time it moved too quickly for me to make much headway. I helped her up, cocking my head with a silent question. Are you okay?

This is describing my “sister,” though nothing is currently wrong with her appearance or behavior. It is from the point of view of someone close to her, though maybe not me.

(Just a side note: her real name is not Alex; I just did not feel that I had the liberty to use her actual name or nickname.)

The descriptions I gave of her normal were true, though, as I said, she does not act so strangely. At least, not currently…
