I glanced across the room at her. She looked...different. Her normally smooth, pink lips were dry and cracked. Her usually silky, shining brown hair looked dark, stringy, and knotted. There were huge bags under her eyes and her face looked pale, making her freckles stand out. She was slouched at her desk, where she normally sat so attentively. Her friend seemed to be chatting her ear off though it didn't look like she was actually listening. I know this girl better than anyone, though we barely talk. I have been watching her since the day I met her, thinking about what I could do to get her to like me back, but she is always so reclusive. I say next to her in class once and she never talked to me unless she had to. The only people she actually talks to are her friends. They talk and talk and sometimes it looks like she is having the time of her life. But now, now she won't even talk to them.
Slowly she looked up from her nails, meeting my gaze. My eyes widened in surprise. Her eyes, normally bright with imagination but tinged with the slightest bit of exhaustion and sadness, had suddenly changed. They were now dark, almost green instead of their usual blue, and rimmed with red as if she had spent days crying. I got lost in them, somehow feeling her pain. Though she may not look quite as bad on the outside, her eyes showed pure tortur and fear. It was as if, in the weekend I hadn't seen her, huge life changes had gone down, horrible ones too. My own eyes started to well up with tears, feeling sorry for whatever she was going through. That was a random description of me that I came up with while looking in the mirror. No, I am not really sad and tortured and stuff, I just occasionally imagine things like that to connect with my characters.
