Suppose your protagonist comes across a mystical item or magical, mischievous creature that grants them a wish. Once it is granted, however, it immediately backfires and has terrible consequences.

A dead lover brought back from the dead, but reincarnated as a vampire? An old man wishes for eternal youth, but becomes trapped in eternal infancy? Or maybe a man wishes to be king, but gets thrown into a timeline when a revolution is knocking down his door?
