Every class had specific duties assigned for them to do, so that they could repay the Headmistress for her kindness of allowing them to reside on her premises. The Vita class were to provide their fellow students and professors with care, such as treating their wounds as well as all ailments. The First of the Vita class is said to be the strongest of all students blessed with the gift of life. Hanako Ebina ranked as First over the Vita class. The Animo class cared or the surrounding architecture and landscape of the Academy. Iria Lykaios ranked as First in the Animo class. The Tempus class has only a few select members compared to the other classes. They do not have any particular duties besides assisting the other classes with simple tasks. Annika Achebe, an African-American girl with curly brown hair and dark skin, ranked First in the Tempus class. The Imperium and Viribus class' acted as guards of the Academy to protect their fellow students from outside threats. Lee Qiqiang ranked First in the Viribus class and Gik Simmons ranked First in the Imperium class.
Amaris stared at the white ceiling with a blank look, where was she? Then she breathed in the sickly sweet scent of the little bird named Hanako. She slowly sat up while noticing she had been placed in the Infirmary. The girl with snow-white hair laid next to her in a similar twin sized bed. They both had been unconscious for days since their battle by the stream. Rage filled Amaris' blood when she remembered the pain caused by the girl's chill. Never in her thousand years of living had she experienced such pain before. The air around them began to thicken when her heat fell upon them. Suddenly, her heat had been cancelled out by the girl's chill. Amaris scowled at her while catching the bed on fire through a fit of fury. Hanako and other Vita members quickly rushed to her bedside with buckets of water to put out her flames. However, only Amaris possessed the power to extinguish her flames, their attempts were futile and only enraged her more.
"Please, Amaris!" Hanako begged desperately.
Amaris slowly looked at her, "Little bird, why don't you join me where it's warm?" She asked with a deranged expression.
"Amaris."
The sound of Iria's voice made Amaris flames extinguish, as if they were silencing themselves. Hanako breathed a sigh of relief when Iria appeared beside her. Amaris looked at Iria with eyes full of rage.
Iria smiled at her, "Do not strain yourself, Amaris. Agatha is assigning you a mission to track the beings known as Night Seers. Of course, I cannot relay further information, but for the time being you will not cause anymore damage." She commanded in firm voice.
Amaris narrowed her eyes at her, "What about her?" She gestured to the girl still in a coma with her thumb.
"I am not sure what happened to her," Hanako spoke up, "she seems to be—"
Iria cut her off, "We do not have time to discuss the matters of an outsider. Amaris since you are feeling lively, you shall see Agatha immediately."
Hanako lowered her head while Iria turned on her heel to leave. Amaris pulled the IVs out of her arm without batting an eye. As she walked passed Hanako, she spoke in a whisper.
"The bird yearns for the taste of blood, but cannot do more than watch the Demon bathe in the blood of her enemies." Amaris chuckled before following Iria out of the Infirmary.
The fluorescent lights flickered above Hanako's head, she looked up with eyes glowing brightly. Amaris certainly knew how to awaken another's rage. Hanako balled her fists while scowling at the unconscious girl, who had been stirred by the scent of danger.
Amaris stood before Agatha in her office with a blank expression as she explained her mission. Her mind wandered to why she took this mission. Has she lost her sanity? Amaris chuckled at the thought, which earned her a weird stare from both Agatha and Iria as well as the Council of Firsts. She quickly returned to her usual poker face self after a brief clearing of her throat.
"Do you understand the mission?" Iria questioned with her eyes narrowed at Amaris in suspicion.
"Do not take me for a fool, I am far more superior than you, Goddess of Spite." Amaris scoffed, even though she had basically ignored Agatha's every word since she entered her office.
Why should she trust the words of an imposter?
"Relay every detail, word for word." Iria ordered.
"You relay every detail, word for word." Amaris retorted while avoiding Iria's piercing gaze.
"What are you, a child?" Iria scoffed.
"You are aware this is a team mission, am I correct, Amaris?" Agatha questioned while propping her elbows on her desk and resting her chin on top of her intertwined fingers.
Amaris blinked, "Of course." She lied with a forced smile.
Iria sighed, "This mission will act as that girl's entrance exam. You are not to interact with her in anyway possible. Understood?" She questioned while rubbing her temples.
"I could care less about that — thing." Amaris seethed with a menacing expression.
"So you have realized she is unlike us." Iria almost laughed.
"I am unlike you, she is unlike you. I will kill her if she stands in my way." Amaris growled through gritted teeth.
Agatha smirked, "Do you fear her power?" She chuckled.
Amaris scowled at her, "I fear no one's power." She looked down at the burn mark in the shape of her hand on Agatha's wrist.
Agatha followed her gaze and immediately scowled at her, "Iria, Hanako, and another new student will take part in her entrance exam. At all costs, you must defeat the Night Seers before they grow too confident in themselves." She declared as she leaned back in her chair.
Amaris scoffed, "I shall make them see the light." She raised a fist engulfed by her golden flames.
Iria smirked, "We meet at dusk, do not be late. You are dismissed." She said with a wave of her hand.
At dusk , before night had completely fallen, all five of them had gathered in the middle of a clearing in the forest. The girl and another girl glanced at the other members of their team in suspicion. Two Firsts and an Imperium member worthy of being a First. Amaris stared at the girl with snow-white hair, until Iria cleared her throat.
"Our orders are simple, defeat the Night Seers and their Queen. Amaris will strike first, Hanako will provide back-up. As for Laura and Alicia, you will invade their lair and locate their Queen. Once you have located their Queen, I will defeat her. If you fail to abide by these orders — Amaris — you will be dropped from the Academy." Iria announced while eyeing Amaris, who stared at her with a blank expression.
Amaris raised her hand to speak, Iria granted it with a nod of her head, "May I question why you mentioned my name of all names?" She asked.
"Because, Amaris, you lack the ability to listen." Iria retorted with an eye roll.
Amaris hummed in response, the sun steadily disappeared behind the horizon and the moon rose in the opposite direction.
The new girl raised her hand as well, Iria allowed her to speak, "You may call me Alice, I would rather you never call me Alicia." She spoke with a smile, but her eyes and aura said otherwise.
Amaris laughed heartily, "What about you, freak? Do you have any special names you prefer to be called by?" She questioned the girl with snow-white hair.
She flinched when all their eyes focused on her, "N-no, Laura is fine." She quietly spoke.
Amaris' face fell, "Iria."
"I am aware of their presence. Hanako." Iria sighed while scratching the back of her head in annoyance.
Hanako raised her hands and pulled the trees apart without touching them. She created a path full of moonlight for them to safely walk on.
"Do not leave this path," Iria ordered, "once you step in the darkness of night, you are theirs." She explained as she led them down the path.
They walked in silence for miles without stopping for anyone or anything. The Night Seers could be heard whispering deep within the shadows. They were stalking them, waiting for an opportunity to strike; to kill them all. Amaris yanked Laura away from a shadow, where a Night Seer had been waiting for her. Laura silently thanked her before quickly running to the middle of the path. Amaris ignited a flame on her index finger and shined it in the Night Seer's face. It stared back at her, no words could explain how grotesque it looked. Eyes blood red, flesh rotting, teeth yellow and sharp, dripping with venom. Amaris narrowed her eyes at it when it remained unbothered by the light of her flames.
"Amaris!" Iria called for her.
Amaris extinguished her flame as she scowled at the shadows before walking back to the center of the path. Soon they reached the Night Seers home, a pitch black cave that reeked of death. Laura covered her nose after catching a whiff of their ungodly stench. Iria glanced at her when she fell to her hands and knees to vomit. Amaris stepped forward while cracking her knuckles. Hanako stood beside her with a stoic expression.
"Hanako will give the signal." Iria announced, ignoring Laura's behavior.
Amaris threw a ball of fire through the opening of the cave. Hundreds of Night Seers were waiting for them to enter their territory. Hanako clasped her hands together, closing the entrance of the cave before reopening it. Amaris' flames revealed them to be unharmed. Hanako closed her hand into a fist, bringing the walls forward, pushing the Night Seers towards them.

Hanako and Amaris remained with blank expressions. The Night Seers let out an ear piercing cry when the moonlight touched them. Amaris hummed before changing the form of her fire to a similar UV as the moon's. Her fire turned white and she slayed the remaining slayers with ease.
"Their greatest power is their greatest weakness, how ironic." Amaris laughed dryly.
Hanako hummed, "How did you change the shape of your flames?" She asked while looking at the piles of black ash.
"A girl never reveals her secrets, Hanako. You of all should know that, little bird." Amaris smirked while lightly tapping the tip of her nose with her index finger.
Hanako lowered her head before pushing her hands out in front of her and sending the wall back to its original place. Amaris simultaneously made a gun with her fingers and shot three "bullets" of light through the darkness of the cave. Three cries followed shortly afterwards. Hanako lifted her head, her eyes glowing as bright as the full moon. Hundreds of roots sprung up from the ground with the intention of striking Amaris, who merely smacked them aside. Amaris pointed her finger gun at Hanako's head while narrowing her eyes at her.
"You intend to kill me?" Amaris laughed at the idea of being killed by a being weaker than her.
"Proceed with the mission." Iria ordered.
Hanako glanced at Iria, "When the time comes I shall have your head on a silver platter." She growled.
Amaris laughed again, "You are no match for me, even if you speak with the Earth. The Earth fears my power, it will not help you in defeating me."
Hanako's scowl deepened, "You do not possess the ability to speak with the Earth!" She shouted.
"I am Amaris, I know all. Do not test my patience." Amaris flicked Hanako's forehead, which sent her flying into the pile of rocks Iria, Alice, and Laura hid behind.
Laura caught Hanako before she could hit the pile of rocks. She gently laid Hanako on the ground before glaring at Amaris, whose deranged expression and murderous intent returned. Instead of picking a fight with them, Amaris turned her attention back to their mission. After one big flash of light, the Night Seers were annihilated. Amaris left the Queen for Alice and Laura to do their part. Iria followed them into the cavern, but stopped before entering the cave.
"Agatha will not be pleased with your behavior." Iria stated.
Amaris looked her up and down, "I do not stay at the Academy to please Agatha." She spat.
Iria narrowed her eyes at her before quickly running after Alice and Laura. The Queen had been severely injured by Amaris' attack. However, she still had mass amounts of power. Alice decreased the Queen's power by forcing her to age faster. Even though she had aged hundreds of years, she still possessed a great amount of power. Laura completely froze her body in ice to make Iria's battle easier. The Queen let out an ear piercing screech, which made Iria's eyes blacken with rage. Laura watched her in horror when the Queen exploded without being touched by the Goddess of Spite. She simply closed her hand into a fist and reduced the Queen to nothing. Laura covered her mouth in disbelief when she sensed an all too familiar evil radiating from Iria. Iria's eyes returned to normal after a few moments.
"Shall we return to the Academy?" She suggested in a kind voice with a smile.
