說到紙巾的英文，香港人經常說錯，在外國有時會令人誤會，甚至引來尷尬。

英國人對紙巾非常重視，不同質地的紙有不同名稱。

首先，用來寫字的紙才是 paper，如果你去餐廳跟侍應生要 paper，他會給你一張寫字的紙，而不是餐巾紙。

用來擦面或者清潔用的紙，我們叫 tissue，通常比較薄和柔軟。

洗手間內的廁紙是 toilet paper 或者 sanitary paper（衛生紙），也有人說 toilet roll（卷紙）。

濕紙巾的英文不是 wet tissue，而是 wet wipes。

擦手紙的英文不是 hand tissue，而是 paper towel。

最後，如果是用來擦嘴或者進食時使用的餐巾紙，不是 tissue，而是 table napkin 或者法語 serviette。

所以，記得下次跟侍應生取餐巾紙，請不要說 paper 或者 tissue，否則對方可能會搞錯。
