Chapter One: The Wedding Dress
"Kristen!"
I heard someone call my name, but I couldn't open my eyes.
I want to sleep! I mentally told the voice.
"Kristen, get up now!" the voice demanded, I creaked open my eyes slowly and saw Natalie, my best friend staring at me wide eyed.
"Now what?" I asked her, Natalie sighed and sat on the edge of my bed.
"Kristen, I know how you feel but I am really sorry, we have to get your wedding dress, today " Natalie said quietly. I rolled my eyes and stood up, great even Natalie is siding with them.
I smiled at Natalie, I knew she felt sorry for me but that didn't mean she could side with them and be against me.
"Natalie, why do they make me do this? And why do you side with them? " I couldn't help but ask her, she was supposed to be my best friend.
Natalie looked away "Because it's the right thing to do "She said.
Wait, what the hell?!
"The right thing to do!?" I whispered, shocked and disappointed, she stared at me for a while then smiled.
"Yep!" She said "Kristen, I... know you don't like Richard, But... you have no choice, and we both know you have no choice."
I sighed. I knew She was right ... I had no choice. I slowly got out of my bed, and walked towards my best friend.
"Natalie, you are right. I am so sorry. I think my life is over" I said, attempting at making this all seem reasonable by smiling, but it was forced and I knew Natalie could tell.
Natalie came towards me and held my hands in her hands. Natalie Brooks has been my best friend since kindergarten, She knew me better than anyone else. She knew my family and everything about my life.
I am not those type of girls that gets jealous of their friends but I got to admit that I wish I could have her life.
She was so pretty and fascinating, with her long wavy dark hair and blue eyes, but that's not what I want to have, since I don't think I look that bad! She lives with her parents in a small nice house.
Her dad owns a small company, and her mother is a teacher. They are rich of course, otherwise my mom wouldn't let me hang out with her! But they weren't as rich as my parents. My parents owned the biggest Hotels and Spas in the country.
The reason why I wish for Natalie's life is because of her family.
Her kind and welcoming family.
They are so sweet, and amazing. They support her and understand her. I wish I had her family. I barely see my parents and when I see them well... Let's just say, I end up getting arranged married to a guy whose guts I hate.
I love my parents a lot, but it's the love they never gave me in return which I really want.
Another reason why I would love to have Natalie's life was because of her boyfriend, her sweet, cute, kind and the most amazing boy in the world. I've never been in love but I can tell they are, it just shows every time they're around each other.
I've gotten into a few relationships before, but none of them lasted long. It's either life hates me or all the good guys in the world are taken – or maybe a bit of both...
I mentally gave myself a slap. I knew I had to be happy for Natalie, she was my best friend after all. I sighed and looked at Natalie's hands holding mine. I looked up and saw concern clouding in her blue eyes.
"Natalie, I am going to get through this." I said smiling at her.
Natalie was first surprised by what I've just said but she just nodded and hugged me tight, I hugged her and patted her back "Good luck Kristen!" She said, then pulled away.
"Thank you!" I said and smiled at her gratefully, she smiled back.
Julie, our maid, came inside after knocking on the door, she was grinning sheepishly "Good morning miss" She said.
"Good morning Julie!" I said and smiled.
"They are waiting for you" She said, I narrowed my eyes and bit my lip, I was confused. My parents would never wait for me.
"Who is waiting for me?" I asked.
"Mr. Anderson and your parents" She said, and as soon as the words came out of her mouth - my smile dropped.
What on earth was Richard doing here?!
Natalie and I stared at each other for a moment.
I wasn't ready yet, I can't face him because I hate him!
Natalie smiled at me sympathetically and gave me one last hug, as if she could read my thoughts. "We'll be there in ten minutes" Natalie said, Julie nodded and went out of my room.
"Kristen, calm down and try to see the good part of him" Natalie said, I rolled my eyes mentally.
Natalie there is no good part of him! I wanted to scream but of course I kept those thoughts to myself, and I smiled and nodded instead.
After spending five minutes in the bathroom and five more minutes dressing up I was finally ready to see my future husband. I walked out of my room with Natalie holding my right hand and walking by my side towards the kitchen, I saw my parents and Richard have already started having their breakfast.
Richard was laughing about god knows what my mother was talking about. My Dad was obviously enjoying the conversation. I couldn't see Richard's face, but I already knew that he was so handsome.
I cleared my throat and walked towards them, I hate arranged marriages! They all looked at me including Richard, He was more handsome than before, but the hatred I had for him was way more than before.
"Here is the bride" My mother chirped happily and smiled at me, but I on the other hand, wanted to get the hell out of there as soon as possible ...
"Take a seat sweetheart! And you too Natalie" Dad said, I searched the table for empty chairs, one was beside Richard and the other beside my mother, mum told Natalie to sit beside her, so I had no choice but to sit beside Richard , as I looked up I saw him smirk. I clenched my jaw.
I hate you so much.
I sat beside Richard awkwardly, He has finished eating and I could see his stupid smirk on his face.
"Sweetheart, we were talking about the wedding and Richard says this Monday is the best date, so what do you think?" Mom asked. I sighed and looked at Natalie who was smiling sadly at me.
"I... think it's great" I said quietly, then looked at Richard who was staring at me with disgust.
Excuse me Mr. Anderson, this wedding is not my fault it's my Mom's!
"Great!" Mom clapped her hands and got up "Richard dear, you told us you wanted to talk to Kristen"
Without saying another word, my parents got up and walked out of the kitchen, I stared at Natalie begging her not to go, but she just smiled sadly and walked out following my parents.
Neither I nor Richard said a word for a few minutes, but thank goodness it was Richard who broke that awkward silence and not me.
"Kristen " He said coldly "I don't like you I am sure you know that" He paused and looked at me, I knew he'd say this.
"I know you don't like me either" He continued "We have to pretend that we like each other, because we don't have any other choice"
He got up and I thought he had finished talking, instead he took out a small box out of his pocket and handed it to me, I took the box and opened it to reveal a ring, then I stared at Richard.
"I-"
I was about to say this ring was so beautiful and it looked very precious, but Richard cut me off before I say anything " I don't have time to listen to whatever you say " He said, and frowned ." and trust me the reason why I am so kind with you now is because of my parent's company and because of your parents, so don't make me angry "
I was really pissed off but I didn't say anything. Instead I just nodded. Mostly because I didn't want any more problems with my parents.
Richard put his hands in his pockets and walked towards a large box, then he pointed to the box before saying anything else and walked out of the kitchen.
I walked towards the box and opened it carefully, then I took out a wedding dress that was folded inside the box.
If I was marrying a boy I truly loved, I would have thought this dress was pretty. But I'm not and I don't like the ring, nor the groom himself and I most certainly did not like the wedding dress.
