By his last year at Saint Peter's College, Reilly had learnt that if you arrive late to a party and leave early enough, you didn't have to help with any of the tidying. He was leaving after only an hour tonight, helping some girl he'd just met into the passenger side of his car. She was absolutely langered, and some gimp had been trying to take advantage of her. He went down after just one punch, and Reilly had gotten the girl out of there.
'Okay then, I'm gonna drop you home, alright?'
The girl giggled, fiddling with the window crank, yanking it the wrong way. She looked up to the window expectantly, then to Reilly with confusion. He leaned over her and wound the window down slightly.
'So, where am I taking you then? Where's your house?'
The girl pointed up the street, off into the darkness. Reilly grimaced and let out a big sigh.
'Alright, we'll do it the hard way then. I'm going to drive you around, and when you see your house you can let me know!'
They ended up at Burger Mac with a double cheeseburger and a milk shake each, and a large fries to share. The girl scoffed down five fries at a time, barely stopping to chew. Reilly watched her with amusement; she didn't look very old — maybe sixteen or seventeen. He suspected that tonight may have been her first high school party, from the effort she had obviously put into her appearance. Her eyelids were painted a bright pink, one shade off from her lipstick that was now smeared slightly across her cheek. Her blonde mane was pulled from her face with a thick strand of ribbon, and She was wearing a dress that just brushed the cusp of her knee, a hallucinogenic mixture of colours splashed over it. She lifted her eyes up to him, giving a small smile. She pointed to the last lone chip in the basket.
'Uh, would you like the last one?'
Reilly chuckled, shaking his head.
'It's okay, I wasn't really hungry anyway.'
The girl smiled with relief, snatching up the last chip and putting it into her mouth. The food had seemed to sober her up substantially, turning her from the life of the party to reserved and quiet.
'I didn't quite catch your name earlier.'
The girl smiled.
'I'm Siobhan.'
'Well, Siobhan, do you think we might be able to do a second take on getting you home?'
Siobhan lived three houses down from where the party had been held. She had become friends with the girl who had been throwing the party, and was invited along to meet some new people because she was home schooled. Reilly walked Siobhan to her bedroom window, the way she had snuck out earlier. She gave him a hug, standing on the tips of her toes to reach her arms around his shoulders.
'Thank you for being so awesome and putting up with my shite.'
'Hey, not a problem, not all guys are jerks. Do you need a leg up?'
Siobhan looked up at her window with an embarrassed grin.
'That'd be great! Seemed like a much better idea on the way down.'
