Chapter 9 – The Letter That Faded
Quily walked home with a heavy heart. Ever since she had discovered the mysterious book in the library, only one thought filled her mind.
"If I read that book, I'll finally know who Aaris really is... and perhaps I'll discover what my future holds.
Lost in those thoughts, she reached home. Yet, no one spoke to her. Her grandparents remained silent, and even the villagers looked at her differently. News had spread throughout the village that she had rejected Prince Evander's marriage proposal. Their whispers followed her wherever she went, but Quily paid no attention. Her heart could think of no one except Aaris.
Unable to stay inside, she slowly walked towards the old well.
As she reached it, her eyes widened with surprise.
A fresh letter... and a bouquet of beautiful sunflowers.
A smile instantly appeared on her face. Happiness returned after days of sadness. She hurried forward, excited to read another letter from Aaris.
But just as she reached for it, the letter slipped from her hands and fell into the well.
Without thinking twice, Quily quickly pulled it back out.

Her heart sank.
Every single word had been washed away by the water. The ink had completely faded, leaving behind nothing but a blank, ruined page.
Tears filled her eyes.
"What have I done...?" she whispered sadly.
The happiness she had felt only moments before disappeared in an instant.
With a broken heart, she picked up only the sunflowers and slowly walked back home.
A little while later, someone arrived at the well.
Only his footsteps could be seen.
It was Aaris.
His face remained hidden.
He looked around and noticed that both the letter and the sunflowers were gone.
A gentle smile crossed his face.
"Quily must have taken them," he thought before quietly leaving.
The next morning, Quily returned to the well, hoping another letter would be waiting for her.
But there was nothing.
No letter.
No sunflowers.
Only a few scattered rose petals lay on the ground.
She quietly stared at them before walking away.
One day passed.
Then another.
Still, no letters arrived from Aaris.
Every day, Quily waited with hope, but the well remained empty.
On the third morning, exciting news spread across the village.
The library had finally reopened.
Quily's eyes sparkled with joy.
"If I can read that mysterious book... I'll finally learn who Aaris is. Maybe I'll even discover what is waiting for me in the future."
Without wasting another moment, she hurried towards the library.
As she walked, she glanced at the old well.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Another letter.
Another bouquet of sunflowers.
She ran towards them, breathing heavily with excitement.
Quickly opening the letter, she began to read.
«"I asked you to meet me near the great tree in our village. Why didn't you come? I waited there for you, believing you would arrive. Don't you want to see me? I'll be waiting by that tree again today, hoping you'll come."
— By Aaris?»
