It was now the day of the first year's branch. Both schools came to the west gate and to the official ANGEL nature arena. Rai went to the contestants' waiting room while the trio and Echo were in the stands waiting for the event to start.
"How well do you think Rai can do?" Karasu asked.
"She is definitely the strongest first year thanks to my help," Echo replied with pride.
"I do wonder though, would anyone want to be in a team with her? She is a dragon hybrid, and racism is a problem," Anas said, worrying for the worst.
"If any of them tries to hurt her, we are so beating the living shit out of them!" Nex said with everyone else agreeing.
"Hey look, there are ANGEL members in the front row," Karasu said when he noticed a person with the official ANGEL symbol.
"They are here to scout out future members for their own team. However, only a handful of them will be a part of mercenary groups, as they really don't care about power levels,"
Just then, 4 big virtual screens appear in the air.
"Ah, projection screens made from illusion slimes' goo, interesting use," Anas commented while looking at the screens.
"How are the screens floating?" Echo asked as it was the first time he has ever seen it.
"Wind pedestals using wind magic bound gems. Magic bound gems were common in the mines after a rain storm called "the tears of the angels" and it's said that—" before Anas can finish, the event began.
"Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the Starfall Crown! We will first start this wonderful event when the future generation of mages—the first years!" Principal Dominic shouted into the crystal cluster. The crowd started to clap and cheer for their respective school, chanting their school's motto.
Just then principal Agnus stepped up to the podium.
"Although this event was supposed to be school versus school competition, due to problems between students, the two of us principals decided to put 2 teams with one student from each school," principal Agnus told the audience. Everyone was whispering to one another and even the ANGEL scouts were appalled by her statement, already writing notes before the first match.
"I fucking knew it. This world should burn in hell," Anas said with a sinister look that made even Echo uneasy.
"Chill sometimes happy, she can handle everything," Echo assured Anas.
Back in the contestants' waiting room, Rai and a female student from Silvermoon Academy were sitting there in the corner.
"So, you also get bullied often?" Rai asked the girl.
"Yeah, they call me "the uncontrollable shark" because I can't fully control my abilities, even though my power is much higher than theirs," the girl replied.
"I can relate to that, I am a dragon hybrid after all. Bullying is just something I have to deal with, but I at least have people who still care about me. My name is Rai by the way," Rai told the girl.
"My name is Raina. My magic is water magic, and yours?"
"Fire. We are polar opposites, how interesting. A fire and water duo, doesn't sound too bad. And don't worry, I have a plan to win. I just need you to explain everything that you can do with your magic," Rai told Raina.
Each team were guided by a teacher into each of the corner of the arena. The teams will have 1 minute each to discuss with the teammates and the match starts when Mr Blaze shoots a firework bomb into the sky.
"Alright, you know what we need to do, right?" Rai asked.
"Are you...sure that this would work?" Raina asked nervously and Rai nodded.
"I'm confident that my plan is enough to prove everyone wrong," Rai shouted and Raina took a deep breath.
Suddenly, they heard sizzling noise in the sky and a massive firework explosion erupted. All the other teams really wanted to defeat Rai and Raina to mock them in front of everyone. While they were trying to traverse the forest, they saw a thick gas cloud near the corner. They were confused and cautious while in the gas cloud.
"Told you our abilities perfectly match," Rai whispered to Raina.
"We still need to beat them," Raina replied.
"Just trust me and follow the plan," Rai said.
Raina calmed her mind and her eyes glowed a teal colour, water formed from her hands and before she lost control, she shot the water eels in a half circle motion. When one of the other teams were close, they were struck down by the eels and crying out in pain.
Rai also made her move, using her newly created dragonflies in the other half of the circle. The trees and grass were burning, suffocating and burning another team.
Everyone in the crowd was wide-eyed, they never thought those two useless people are actually winning. Only the trio and Echo looked knowingly that Rai is stronger than 50 of these students and were cheering her on.
"The water mage is actually impressive. From what I can see, she has ridiculous power, but her control is the main problem, seeing that she is actually holding back," Anas gave a quick deduction on the Raina.
Echo looked and saw that the scouts are smiling, possibly at Rai and Raina. And he's happy for her.
"If Rai wants to join a team, are you gonna allow that?" Echo asked Anas.
"I would, but principal Agnus also said Rai needed to join the mercenary group," Anas replied.
"Told you she was special, hand over the 20 gold coins," principal Agnus told Dominic.
"This was a stupid bet anyways," he replied while handing the coins.
Only one other team was in the fight as the other two teams were dragged out for safety.
"These two nobodies are crazy, should we just surrender?" a boy asked.
"No! We can't lose to them, especially her," the boy that replied was Ashton and he was still salty that his dad couldn't help him.
"Come on! Let's move closer!" Ashton shouted at his buddy.
Just then, Rai was right in front of the two.
"What? Wanted to die so bad that you came all by yourself?" Ashton mocked.
"I'm the strongest of the first years, you are nothing, but 3rd," Ashton continued.
"You know? Maybe your name should be Asston and not Ashton," Rai mocked him back.
"I'll beat you back to the farmlands!" Ashton said while gritting his teeth.
His eyes glowed with a magenta colour and rage as he picked up trees from the ground. He threw them with all of his force, but Rai just covered her gauntlets with fire and incinerated the trees in an instant.
Both Ashton and his buddy dropped to their knees as they surrendered.
"This match ends with the winning team being Rai and Raina!" Principal Dominic shouted, but most of the crowd staying silent, except for Mr Blaze, the trio, Echo and principal Agnus.
"Haha! We did it! I couldn't have done this without you!" Raina celebrated as she and Rai clapped each other's hands.
"You were the reason why it worked, without you, I couldn't have pulled this off," Rai said.
While she was celebrating with Raina, Karasu had a sudden shock of realization.
"Holy shit, we forgot about the gifts and souvenirs we got her!!"
Anas and Nex looked at him, then they both panicked.
"Oh my goodness, you're right! With the underground arena, Glaive's explanation, my family's matters and this event, we totally forgot about them!" Anas said, pulling his hair back.
"It's fine, we can just give them to her after the match. It is a 3 day event after all," Nex said, trying to salvage the situation.
"Didn't we have chocolates from the boy we saved?" Karasu asked.
"Don't worry, we can put them in the cooler. It has the highest quality ice gems ever in Last Star," Anas said.65Please respect copyright.PENANASpYkPvDQ12
