"Would you two please explain why you were screaming during an operation?" sighs Dr. Jaquavius.

I glance at Bob. He glances at me.

"Uh ... Bob dared me to see who could scream the longest," I say, scratching the back of my neck.

"And why did you do this in the operation room of all places?" Dr. Jaquavius rubs his forehead.

Bob and I shrug simultaniously. "But he bet $300 that I couldn't scream longer than him ... who would just leave that?"

Dr. Jaquavius's eyes practically pop out of his head. "$300?!'

I nod with a mischevious smirk. "$300."

He slams his pen down, and Bob and I look at each other again.

"Did you finish it yet?" he asks. I can't quite tell if he's upset or not but ...

We shake our heads like children getting scolded for eating too many cookies.

Dr. Jaquavius's smirk surprises us. "I'd like to join. And I'm raising it to $450."

An electric buzz fills the room as we all stand up straight. I hold up one finger, then two, then three.

We all sigh at yet another interrupted attempt. "We placed a bet on who can scream the longest," Bob explains.

Five minutes later we have at least ten people screaming at the top of their lungs.
