The moment the ball moved through the room, everything broke.

Not physically.

Conceptually.

Every player reacted at once—but not in the same way.

Some sprinted forward.

Some changed direction mid-step like their instincts had been overwritten.

It wasn’t football anymore.

It was response lag warfare.

Daiki felt it instantly.

This wasn’t chaos.

Reiji moved first.

Clean.

He didn’t chase the ball—he cut off where it would force reactions next.

Three players collapsed into confusion just by entering his space.

Reiji spoke without looking away.

“He’s not playing the ball.”

Daiki answered immediately.

“Then he’s not a striker.”

He stopped near the ball.

Didn’t need to.

The ball rolled slightly toward him anyway.

Like gravity had chosen a side.

Daiki stepped forward for the first time.

Not defending.

Adjusting.

“I see it now.”

Reiji glanced at him.

“See what?”

Daiki’s voice was steady.

“He’s not trying to win possession.”

A pause.

“He’s trying to make possession meaningless.”

The third player clapped once.

Deliberate.

“Correct again.”

Reiji’s eyes narrowed.

“That’s impossible.”

The third player looked at him.

“Is it?”

Then—

He moved.

And the entire room stuttered.

Not physically.

Perceptionally.

A defender ran forward—

Then suddenly realized he was already behind the play.

A midfielder passed the ball—

But the pass arrived before the decision felt made.

Daiki felt it too.

A delay in thought.

A corruption of instinct.

He grit his teeth slightly.

“…he’s inserting himself into the decision pipeline.”

Reiji moved sharply now.

For the first time.

Fast.

Precise.

He closed space instantly.

But—

The third player didn’t avoid him.

He walked into him.

And Reiji stopped.

Just for a fraction.

Not because he was blocked.

Because his brain registered an outcome that hadn’t happened yet.

Daiki saw it.

“That’s it…”

Reiji turned slightly.

“What?”

Daiki’s expression tightened.

“He’s forcing prediction before action.”

The third player leaned slightly toward Reiji.

“Good. You’re both learning.”

Then he stepped past him.

Reiji didn’t stop him.

Not because he couldn’t.

Because for a split second—

Stopping him felt like it had already failed.

Silence spread across the room.

Even the system hesitated.

Then—

The ball pulsed violently.

Daiki finally moved fully now.

He cut into space—not where the third player was, but where his influence had not reached yet.

Reiji followed immediately.

They moved in parallel for the first time.

Not as rivals.

As survival instinct.

The third player noticed.

“Ah…”

A soft laugh.

“So you’ve adapted.”

He turned slightly.

“Good.”

Then—

He kicked the ball lightly again.

This time—

The effect was sharper.

Players staggered mentally.

One fell to his knees.

“I… I thought I already lost the ball…”

“He’s everywhere at once!”

Daiki’s eyes widened slightly.

Reiji spoke low.

“He’s compressing time perception.”

Daiki corrected instantly.

“No.”

“He’s manipulating certainty.”

Reiji looked at him.

Daiki continued.

“He makes you feel like your decision already happened.”

A silence.

Reiji exhaled slowly.

“…that’s worse.”

The third player smiled.

“I’m glad you understand.”

Then he pointed at both of them.

“But here’s the real problem.”

A pause.

“You two are still trying to beat me inside the system.”

He spread his arms slightly.

“I’m not inside it.”

The room darkened slightly.

The system flickered again.

UNREGISTERED GAME STATE DETECTED

ESCALATION REQUIRED

The ball began to vibrate harder.

Faster.

Almost violently.

Daiki stepped forward.

“This isn’t football anymore.”

Reiji responded instantly.

“It is.”

A pause.

“Just not the version we understand.”

The third player laughed softly.

“Exactly.”

Then his expression sharpened slightly for the first time.

“But now I’m bored.”

He looked at the ball.

“Let’s speed this up.”

And for the first time—

He actually struck it properly.

Not a tap.

Not a manipulation.

A real kick.

The sound echoed like a gunshot inside the chamber.

The ball exploded into motion.

And every player reacted—

Too late.

Daiki’s eyes widened.

Reiji moved instantly.

But even he was a fraction behind.

Because for the first time—

The game wasn’t being influenced.

It was being decided unilaterally.

The third player stood still.

Watching them scramble.

Then said softly:

“I’ll call you two something.”

A pause.

“Interesting failures.”

Daiki clenched his fist.

Reiji’s eyes sharpened like steel.

And in that moment—

Both of them understood the same truth.

They weren’t competing with each other anymore.

They were both being tested by something that didn’t recognize competition.

Only control.

The ball returned slowly to center.

Like nothing had happened.

The system finally spoke again.

Then—

A new line appeared.

Reiji read it first.

His expression changed slightly.

Daiki read it second.

And went still.

The third player smiled.

“Ah.”

“Now it’s fun.”
