Lights up. Kylie, Azul, Penelope, and Ihaan reenter the Ranger Station. They have just gotten off the lake. Ihaan is nervous.
Kylie: (Groans.) Man, I thought we’d never get off the lake.
Penelope: (Chuckles.) Oh, Kylie, admit it. You loved that trip just as much as I did, right?
Kylie: (Sighs.) I guess so. Oh, hey! (Smiles and points at Ranger Kate.) It’s Ranger Kate! (Waves.) Hey, Ranger Kate!
Ihaan: Ranger Kate?
Kate: Welcome back, Camp Juniper. How was the Lady Evelyn Smoothwater Provincial Park?
Azul: It was amazing, Ranger Kate! The Lady Evelyn Smoothwater Provincial Park is a beautiful place! We can’t believe it’s already over! The week just flew by!
Kate: Well, I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s always nice to hear compliments about the provincial park. (Notices Ihaan.) Huh?
Penelope: What is it, Ranger Kate?
Ranger Kate stands up from her seat. She stares at Ihaan.
Kate: Who’s this young man? (Scans Ihaan up and down.)
Kylie: This is Ihaan, ma’am. We bumped into him on Red Squirrel Lake. He’s a hermit. He’s been living in the Lady Evelyn Smoothwater Provincial Park all his life. He decided to join us on the trip to Latchford and here. He’s the Ghost of Ontario, Ranger Kate.
Kate: Ghost of Ontario?
Kylie: Yes, ma’am.
Kate: Wait a minute. (She stands up and approaches Ihaan.) Young man, is your name really Ihaan?
Ihaan: (Nervously) Yes.
Kate: Really? (Choked voice.) I-I had a son named Ihaan.
Ihaan gasps. Kate does too. Ihaan looks her in the eyes and repeats the story he told Camp Juniper on the night they found out he was the Ghost of Ontario.
Ihaan: Once upon a time, there was a young girl who loved to canoe.
Kate’s eyes widen. She’s in shock. She knows this story! She told it to her son a long time ago!
Ihaan (Cont.): Every night, she would sneak out and canoe to the heart of Lady Evelyn Lake, where she would watch the stars.
Kate smiles.
Ihaan (Cont.): One night, she became caught in a storm that caused her canoe to tip over and sink. While underwater, she saw the light to Heaven, the moonlight, and reached for it. It was telling her to join it. It was telling her that she could canoe forever if she did. So the young canoeist followed the light to Heaven where she…
Ihaan and Kate were able to canoe forever and ever.
Ihaan: (Choked voice.) Mom?
Kate takes his shoulders. She starts to cry.
Kate: Ihaan. Oh, my baby boy, it’s you! It’s really you! You’ve come back! Oh, Ihaan. (She sobs and falls into Ihaan’s arms.)
Ihaan: Shh, it’s okay to cry, Mom. I promise you, we will never be separated again. Oh, Mom.
Kylie: What do you know? (She hugs her own parents.) The Ghost of Ontario has found his mother. This trip just keeps getting better and better. Well, Dad? (She looks her father in the eyes.) Where are we going next?
Penelope’s hand shoots into the sky.
Penelope: I call Costa Rica!
Kylie: Whoa, Mom! Take it easy!
She laughs. Azul, Penelope, Ranger Kate, and the Ghost of Ontario, Ihaan, join her. Lights down.
