Chapter 7: She Came Back

Aanya ran.

Out of the house.

Out of the past.

Out of the truth she didn’t want to accept.

“This isn’t happening… this isn’t happening…” she kept repeating.

But her heart knew.

There was no escape.

By the time she reached home, her legs gave up.

She collapsed near the door, gasping for air.

“I won’t let it take anyone else…” she whispered.

“I’ll stop it… I don’t care how…”

Silence.

Then—

A soft knock.

Aanya froze.

No one should be here.

No one knew.

The knock came again.

Slow.

Patient.

Her heartbeat pounded in her ears as she stood up.

Step by step…

She walked to the door.

Her hand trembled as she opened it.

And everything inside her shattered.

“Hi, Aanya…”

It was Meera.

Standing there.

Smiling.

Alive.

Aanya stumbled back. “No… no, this isn’t real…”

Meera tilted her head slightly.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

Her voice sounded normal.

Too normal.

Aanya’s eyes filled with tears. “You… you died… I saw you—”

Meera laughed softly. “What are you talking about? I’m right here.”

For a moment—

Hope.

Dangerous, fragile hope.

“Meera…” Aanya stepped closer, her voice breaking. “Is it really you…?”

Meera smiled.

“Yes.”

But something was wrong.

Her smile didn’t reach her eyes.

Her eyes—

They were empty.

Completely empty.

Aanya’s breath stopped.

“Meera…?”

The lights flickered.

The air turned cold.

And then—

Meera spoke again.

But this time—

It wasn’t her voice.

“Did you miss her?”

Aanya stumbled back in horror.

“No… stay away from me…”

Meera stepped forward slowly.

Her movements stiff.

Unnatural.

“You wanted to save her.”

“You wanted another way.”

Aanya shook her head, tears streaming.

“This isn’t her… you’re not her…”

Meera’s smile widened.

Too wide.

“You are learning.”

The door slammed shut behind Aanya.

She screamed, turning around—but it wouldn’t open.

Locked.

Trapped.

When she turned back—

Meera was closer.

Too close.

Her face inches away.

“A life was taken…”

Aanya couldn’t breathe.

“But you still don’t understand.”

“Please…” Aanya whispered. “Stop this…”

Meera’s head tilted unnaturally.

“Death is not the end.”

Aanya’s heart dropped.

“No…”

“It is a continuation.”

Suddenly—

Meera’s body jerked.

Her smile disappeared.

Her eyes flickered.

For a split second—

It was really her.

“Aanya…” Meera whispered weakly. “Help me…”

Aanya froze.

“Meera?!”

Her body moved forward instinctively.

But—

“Too late.”

Meera’s body snapped back violently.

The shadow took control again.

“She belongs to me now.”

Aanya screamed, reaching out—

But Meera’s body began to fade.

Slowly.

Piece by piece.

Like she was being erased.

“No! Give her back! PLEASE!”

But the darkness swallowed her.

And she was gone.

Silence.

The door unlocked.

The lights stopped flickering.

Everything returned to normal.

Except Aanya.

She fell to the floor, shaking uncontrollably.

“It’s not just killing them…” she whispered.

Her voice broke completely.

“It’s taking them.”

In the corner of the room—

The chair creaked.

Waiting.
