[Victoria’s Thought]: In Gotham, they say the night is darkest just before the dawn. But right now, there is no dawn. There’s only Jervis Tetch, a stolen shard of my soul, and a monster that shouldn't exist.
As the mind-control collapsed, the Mad Hatter grew desperate. He slammed the corrupted Cybergem shard into his "Jabberwocky" machine—a sprawling mass of Gotham's industrial scrap and the Gardens' mutated vines.
The shard didn't just power the machine; it birthed a Multi-versal Abomination. A dragon-like beast made of rusted steel and glowing violet thorns roared, its wings tearing the roof off the Botanical Gardens.
"BEWARE THE JABBERWOCK, MY DEARS!" Tetch shrieked from the monster's head. "THE JAWS THAT BITE! THE CLAWS THAT CATCH!"
[Batgirl’s Thought]: It’s bigger than a T-Rex and made of reality-warping junk. My Batarangs are just going to annoy it. I need Victoria to be the sword. I’ll be the shield.
"Victoria!" Batgirl shouted over the roar. "The shard is in its chest! It’s the heart of that thing! I'll draw its fire—you find an opening!"
"On it!" Victoria’s thrusters ignited, leaving a trail of emerald sparks.
The Final Strike
Batgirl dived between the monster's legs, using her grapnel to trip the beast while tossing smoke pellets to blind its many mechanical eyes. The Jabberwocky lashed out, its tail smashing stone pillars like they were toothpicks.
Victoria soared high into the Gotham clouds. She felt the shard calling to her—a painful, distorted pull.
[Victoria’s Thought]: It wants to be whole. It wants to go home as much as I do. Okay, Babs... watch this.
Victoria dived. She didn't fire a blast. She pulled all her energy inward, becoming a Human Meteor. Her transparent armor turned into a needle-sharp point of pure starlight.
"FOR SHERWOOD!"
Victoria slammed into the beast's chest.
SFX: SHREEEEEE-BOOOOOM!
The impact was a white-out. The corrupted shard shattered under the pressure of Victoria’s resolve. The violet light was sucked back into a single, swirling point—a Rift.
The Goodbye
The monster collapsed into a pile of harmless scrap and wilted weeds. Jervis Tetch was thrown into a bush, unconscious and babbling about tea.
The Rift hung in the center of the garden, a glowing doorway back to Victoria's Earth. It was shrinking fast.
Victoria stood in the rubble, her armor scorched and dim. She looked at Barbara, who was leaning against a broken fountain, catching her breath.
"It's closing," Victoria said, her voice small.
Barbara walked over. She didn't say anything at first. She reached into her utility belt and pulled out a small, weighted Black Batarang. She pressed it into Victoria’s hand.
"A souvenir," Barbara said, her eyes warm. "To remind you that even when the multiverse feels too big, you’re never fighting alone. You’re a hero, Victoria. Not because of the watch, but because of the girl wearing it."
Victoria gripped the Batarang. Tears pricked her eyes. "Thanks, Babs. For everything. If you ever find yourself in Sherwood... look for the girl eating a hot dog."
"I'll bring the mustard," Barbara joked.
Victoria stepped into the light.
The Return
POP.
Victoria slammed back onto the pavement of the Sherwood alleyway. The sounds of traffic and the smell of the ocean hit her like a physical weight.
She looked down at her feet. There was her half-eaten hot dog, still sitting on the napkin. Only five seconds had passed in her world.
She looked at her wrist. The Cyber Watch was humming peacefully. But as she opened her hand, she saw it: The Black Batarang, heavy and cold in her palm.
[Victoria’s Thought]: It wasn't a dream. I fought alongside a legend. And if she can survive Gotham, I can survive whatever Dementra has planned for me.
Victoria tucked the Batarang into her pocket and took a final, triumphant bite of her cold hot dog.
[Victoria’s Thought]: Watch out, Sherwood. I've got a few new tricks.
