Chapter XXIV: Busted
As the first light of dawn crests over the horizon, a sense of calm begins to spread across the University of the Constellations. The campus, still bearing the scars of the recent conflict, seems to exhale in collective relief. Principal Kimura, his body weary but his spirit unbroken, stirs from his brief rest in the stadium where many students sought refuge. Dr. Yoshida, the university president runs over to the stadium after their own battle at the Administration Building. He then sees Principal Kimura.
Dr. Yoshida: "Principal Kimura!"
Principal Kimura: "President Dr. Yoshida, it's over... for now."
Around them, students begin to wake up, their expressions a mix of exhaustion and tentative hope. The stadium, usually a place of athletic triumphs, had become an impromptu sanctuary during the chaos. Principal Kimura rises to his feet, and together with Dr. Yoshida, stretching out the stiffness from his joints, and takes in the sight of his students—the future of the university.
Meanwhile, Dr. Aoshima sprints back to the stadium, his heart pounding not just from the exertion but from the weight of the discoveries yet to be fully understood. Hajime is on the phone, his voice steady and authoritative as he coordinates with the police.
Hajime: "Yes, we need immediate assistance at the University of the Constellations. There's been a major incident involving dark magic and criminal activity. Several students and faculty members of the Aquarius District are injured."
In the depths of the basement, Prof. Nakamura regains consciousness. The reality of his situation hits him hard as he takes in the confines of his new prison. His mind races, trying to piece together the events that led to his downfall.
Nakamura: "How did it come to this? I was so close..."
His thoughts are interrupted by the distant sounds of footsteps. Panic begins to set in, but he is powerless to act, bound by the restraints that hold him captive. He strains against them, but they are unyielding. He realizes that Ryujin and the others are no longer there, the realization sending a cold chill down his spine.
Nakamura: "Where are they? What have they done?"
Above ground, the doors of the administration building swing open, and Ryujin and his companions emerge, their bodies battered and bruised from the battle. The sight of them prompts gasps from the gathering crowd of students and faculty. Medics rush forward, their expressions a mix of urgency and concern.
Medic: "We need stretchers over here! Let's get them to the infirmary immediately!"
Ryujin, his face etched with pain but resolute, nods to Principal Fukushu as he is helped onto a stretcher. The principal approaches, his expression a mix of pride and concern.
Principal Kimura: "You did well, Ryujin. You all did."
Ryujin: "It's not over yet. Nakamura... there's more to his plans than we realized."
Then, Saki appears beside of him, and amazed of how hard he fought at the underground laboratory.
Saki: "That was cool of what you did, Ryujin. That was brave of you"
Ryujin smiles and nods at her.
Ryujin: "Thanks, Saki. I appreciate it."
With tears in her eyes, feeling the emotions that she almost have lost Ryujin, she hugs him. Ryujin is surprised but savors the hug, and hugs back.
As the medics work to stabilize the injured students, police officers begin to secure the scene. The arrival of the authorities brings a sense of order to the chaotic aftermath. They move with practiced efficiency, setting up a perimeter and beginning their investigation.
Detective Ito, a seasoned investigator with sharp eyes and a keen sense of intuition, approaches Dr. Yoshida.
Detective Ito: "Dr. Yoshida, I'm Detective Ito. We've been briefed on the situation. Can you walk us through what happened here?"
Dr. Yoshida: "Ask Principal Kimura. He and the others at the Aquarius District apprehended the suspect and mastermind behind it."
Detective Ito approaches Principal Kimura who is just nearby.
Detective Ito: "Principal Kimura, I'm Detective Ito. We've been briefed on the situation. Can you walk us through what happened here?"
Principal Kimura takes a deep breath, steeling himself to recount the events of the night.
Principal Kimura: "It all began with Professor Nakamura. He... he was conducting experiments involving dark magic, using students as test subjects. His ultimate goal was to control the entire city. We managed to stop him, but not without a fight."
Detective Ito listens intently, his notepad in hand, jotting down key details. He then turns his attention to the strange stones that have been recovered from the scene.
Detective Ito: "These stones... they seem to be a crucial part of this. We'll need to take some for analysis."
Dr. Aoshima, who has been assisting the medics, steps forward, holding the crystal he has been studying.
Dr. Aoshima: "Detective, these crystals are unlike any known minerals. They seem to have properties that amplify magical abilities. Nakamura was using them to enhance his powers."
Detective Ito: "We'll have our experts look into them. This might just be the breakthrough we need to understand the full extent of Nakamura's plans."
As the investigation continues, Prof. Nakamura is led out of the basement in handcuffs. His once haughty demeanor is now replaced with a sullen, defeated look. The sight of the police and the crowd of students and faculty watching him fills him with a mix of shame and defiance.
Nakamura: "You think this is over? You've only delayed the inevitable!"
Principal Kimura steps forward, his gaze unwavering.
Principal Kimura: "Whatever your plans were, they end here. This university will heal and rebuild, stronger than ever."
The police escort Nakamura to a waiting car, the doors closing with a definitive thud. The immediate threat has been neutralized, but the scars of the conflict remain. Students, faculty, and staff begin the process of cleaning up, both physically and emotionally.
As the sun continues to rise, casting a warm glow over the campus at the university stadium, Dr. Yoshida addresses the gathered students and faculties of every district.
Dr. Yoshida: "Today, we faced a great challenge. But together, we overcame it. We will restore our university and ensure that it remains a place of learning and growth. To the students, staff, administrators, and instructors who've fought, thank you all for your bravery and resilience. I also would like to extend my gratitude to the Aquarius District, who have tracked and apprehended the suspect immediately before things go beyond chaos. Due to the damages and events that have occurred, I, Dr. Minato Yoshida, University of the Constellations President, hereby move the Stella Alignare and Starlight Festival to another date, that will be approved soon by the council. And another announcement, due to the damages and events occurred, I hereby suspending classes from this afternoon, until Friday. Regular Classes will resume on Monday. Thank You everyone, good day and get some rest. Thank You!"
The crowd erupts into applause, a wave of relief and solidarity sweeping through them. They have faced darkness and emerged into the light, united and determined to rebuild.
Dr. Aoshima, standing alongside Hajime, looks at the crystal in his hand. The mystery of its origin and properties still looms large, but he feels a renewed sense of purpose.
Dr. Aoshima: "We have much work ahead of us. But for now, let's focus on healing and understanding. We'll uncover the truth behind these crystals and ensure that no one ever misuses their power again."
Hajime nods in agreement.
Hajime: "Together, we'll make sure this never happens again."
As the campus begins to stir with the first activities of a new day, and the festival's postponement, the promise of a brighter future feels within reach. The University of the Constellations has faced its darkest hour and emerged stronger, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
