Whatever Roby and the Martians were planning, we couldn't let them run away. However, we didn't want the ice cream to burn in the meantime, so somebody had to take care of that. Sebastian volunteered to bring it to safety while we focus on Roby.
The supreme authority of Mars was already getting away from us, so the chase had to begin now. We left Sebastian behind and pursued the leader of the Martians.
Moving around in the prison wasn't easy, not only because of the fire, but also due to the prisoners running around, hoping to save themselves.
This also reminded me of the Hyperspace, as back then Arika and I freed the prisoners to cause chaos and flee in the meantime. However, there is one key difference between that and the current situation: now, all prisoners were running more or less in one direction.
- They're running to the lift! - Amber remembered about it.
That makes a lot of sense, considering how it is, to our knowledge, the only way out of the prison.
- Is anyone in the base aware of the fires? Why hasn't anyone come down here to extinguish them? - Claudius asked.
- I have no idea; that doesn't matter for now! Focus on Roby! - Anthony responded.
Speaking of Roby, he too was making his way to the elevator. He, unlike everyone else, has the clearence needed to ride to the outpost safely. If he takes the lift for himself, we'll be stuck down here with the prisoners unless there's another way out. If we get stuck, it will be a matter of time before we succumb to the flames.100Please respect copyright.PENANAis2f5oNBmo
Because of the general direction we're headed in, almost everybody was chasing Roby along with us. The prisoners expressed shock upon learning that the arsonist was none other than Roby.
- Robert! Why are you doing this? You're supposed to be a good leader! Those fires can doom the entire base! - a prisoner exclaimed.
- I don't care! - Roby made it to the elevator. He unlocked it and stepped inside, feverishly pressing the "CLOSE DOORS" button. The prisoner who shouted at Roby was the one closest to him. Said prisoner was also quite strong and managed to hold the doors back. With the other prisoners piling up behind him, we hoped that they'll bust into the elevator and capture Roby.
Unfortunately for us, Roby swiftly kicked the prisoner out of the lift and the doors closed shut. In an ultimate act of betrayal of his people, Roby made it out of the prison alone. The strong prisoner started banging on the closed doors in a fit of rage. We're stuck down here.
- Oh no... - Anthony muttered.
- What's wrong? - Arika asked through the walkie-talkie. She was on alert.
- Roby, aka Supreme, took the lift out of here alone. We're stuck down here with all the prisoners! We can't move forward but the flames can! - Anthony replied in a hurry.
- Wait - Arika didn't know about Roby's true colors until now - you mean the leader of the Martians?!
- Yes! - I added.
- I can't hack the elevator... at least not instantly. You'll have to wait a bit, but you don't have time...! - I could sense the pressure in Arika's voice. She felt responsible for everyone who's down here. The worst part? 100Please respect copyright.PENANA8WgnYh0ZXd
She can't really do much to change our fate.
However, as we were about to find out, our fate wasn't sealed.
The muscular prisoner was banging so hard on the elevator's doors that he eventually busted through them, revealing an empty elevator shaft. If we want to live, we have to climb through it.
There was no ladder to climb on, but there were metal supports that prevented the shaft from collapsing. By carefully gripping those metal bars in the right order, it was theoretically possible to climb into the top levels of the outpost. However, theory doesn't always mean practice, so somebody had to go first to prove that it's possible to make it out alive without the elevator.100Please respect copyright.PENANA3YKXVaD8Nn
The muscular prisoner ended up being the first to go, because he was simply the first one to break into the shaft. In an act of unity, the prisoners behind him helped him climb up the first few bars. The first prisoner had to make the rest of the way on his own.
It seems like the prisoner was so focused on survival that his brain allowed him to climb automatically. He didn't really have to think about his path; it was an instict.
Reaching the top, he encountered an issue: the elevator itself.
It was in his way and he had to break through it to reach the base, but that isn't really possible with his bare hands, even if their so strong.
He could only bang on the floor, hoping that someone will hear him. Luckily, someone did.
It wasn't any someone, it was Big Donny.
Big Donny managed to cut a circular hole in the elevator floor using a saw, allowing the prisoner to reach the surface.
Everyone else, ourselves included, rushed after him.
Eventually, after the treacherous and pretty terrifying climb, we reached the outpost. Big Donny had a firefighter suit on and, accompanied by several colonists in similar suits, bravely dropped into the prison to extinguish the fires before they reach the upper levels.100Please respect copyright.PENANABGs1GRaDOJ
One concerning thing was the lack of Roby's presence. He vanished without a trace.
- Where's Roby? - Claudius asked. We had no idea.
Behind us, some of the prisoners helped Sebastian bring the ice cream to the outpost, so some if it was salvaged.
We couldn't stay here for much longer, because we had to find Roby. Instead, we encountered Einstein and Arika.
- You're alive! - Einstein exclaimed cheerfully.
- Is everyone okay? - Arika asked.
- Big Donny freed the people by cutting through the elevator floor. We had to climb through the shaft! - Amber explained.
- Have you seen Roby nearby? - Anthony remembered about him.
- No, I saw someone else in a similar suit near the lung. We were about to pursue them - Einstein briefed us.
- What are we waiting for? Let's go! - Claudius rushed.
We rushed over to the lung, passing by some very confused scientists. Suddenly, a loud bang shocked us all. It wasn't a detonation of dynamite or other explosives; it sounded like metal being smashed.
- WARNING: LUNG COMPROMISED! - an automated voice informed us.
- The Martians did this! - Amber exclaimed.
- WARNING: AIRLOCK SYSTEM DESTROYED! EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY! - another automated warning ensued.
Now, everyone flocked to the large airlock to escape to the surface, or at least get spacesuits.
- Who did this? - a scientist asked.
- It's them - Roby appeared out of seemingly nowhere, pointing at us - I had to get here first to stop their evil plan, but I didn't make it in time! They're pesky American spies! We need to arrest them!100Please respect copyright.PENANAf4KLxTVDe6
What?! Roby accused us of destroying the lung!
For some reason, everyone around believed him. The prisoners didn't make it here yet, so nobody in here knew about Roby's true identity, besides us of course.
However, his authority was more powerful than ours. The scientists turned to us with anger, before we could even counter Roby's accusation.
- He's evil... - Amber muttered before the scientists began to chase us.
The situation has gotten, much, much, much worse and it has barely been twenty minutes.
