- So the Martians stole the ice cream... - I just stared at the "guard", trying my best to connect the dots.
- But you told us that the Martians have nothing to do with the ice cream theft! - Sebastian hissed at Dawn.
The disguised guard looked in our direction, but luckily didn't notice us due to the darkness.
- As far as I knew. It seems like Supreme didn't want me to know about this operation. After all, he wanted me to die with you - she sighed.
- Let's follow this dude quietly. We'll see what he's up to - Anthony told us.91Please respect copyright.PENANAuvnAOHFW3w
- Isn't it obvious? He's the one who ruined Ice Cream Day! If he's all on his own, there's nothing stopping us from beating him up! - Amber responded.
The guard looked back again, but he still didn't see us. That's weird.
- Ghost. This planet is haunted - he muttered before dissapearing behind a corner. We had to speed up to catch up with him.
I replayed his sentence in my head, trying to figure out if his voice matched anybody who we have met before. But there was no match. This guy is someone new.
- Maybe we should lock him up in a cell to interrogate? - Claudius suggested.
- How? He won't just kindly walk into the prison cell - Sebastian hissed.
- We can try to get him in with brute force - Amber proposed.
- He's probably an assassin and him killing us in response isn't out of the question - I was a bit skeptical.
- It's my chance - Dawn whispered before splitting off.
- Wait! - Sebastian tried to stop her, but to no avail.
What did Dawn mean? Her chance to redeem herself?
Dawn snuck up to the assassin, getting dangerously close. With the element of surprise, she lunged onto the assassin, catching him off guard. The assassin fell over, but promptly pushed Dawn off his back, throwing her against the musty wall. He then got up and saw his former ally.91Please respect copyright.PENANAA17H4O4GBD
- You're still alive! You have got to be kidding me! - the assassin exclaimed and I finally recognised him. It's the guy who abandoned Dawn aboard the Remedy.
The assassin leaped into action, clobbering poor Dawn. She retaliated by kicking him in his left knee, which temporarily stunned him.91Please respect copyright.PENANAWt0iedEOkM
- Why are you mad? You're not the only one who wanted to live! - Dawn hissed before attacking again.
- You can't get in our way again! We almost failed to hijack the rocket because of your incompetence! That's it, you must go! - the assassin retaliated.91Please respect copyright.PENANACMFj8NaUhy
- I don't want to get in your way. I'm good now - Dawn responded before punching the assassin's helmet with full force, leaving a small crack on the visor.
At this point, Amber joined the fight to assist Dawn. Within a minute, it was clear that we were getting the upper edge. The assassin was forced to run away, with us in hot pursuit.
We chased him until we found the rolling crate filled with ice cream. It was guarded by several assassins, all of which wore identical spacesuits in familiar colors. How many Martians are in this base?
It was clear that there was no way for this to end without a battle. Amber was ready for combat, as she was the first one to leap into action. She took care of the first assassin she encountered. Dawn went on to finish off the man who abandoned her aboard the Remedy.
I'm not very good at fighting, as I'm more of an intelectual, better suited for mental work. So, intead of showcasing my poor combat skills, I decided to trick the assassins.
One of the attackers was equipped with an electroblade, an electrically conductive dagger. It seems like the Martians really like weaponizing electricity.
This assassin chose me as their target, just as I had hoped. I quickly dodged their attack, which ended in the assassin stabbing their electroblade deep into the rolling crate. Whilst trying to pull it out, they left a big, gaping hole in the crate.
Anthony quickly grasped my plan and rushed into the scene. We wanted to steal back the stolen ice cream. He reached the gap and pulled out the tubs of ice cream. The flavours matched those described by Big Donny.
Suddenly, a loud bang penetrated my ears. As I turned around to face the source of the explosion, I saw another assassin. However, this one was different. They detonated some unidentified explosives, starting a massive fire in the middle of the prison.
The prisoners weren't numb to all of this. Seeing the fire, they were banging on the metal doors, praying for freedom. We couldn't leave them behind.
Claudius rushed over to the nearest door and started picking the lock. While he took care of the poor prisoners, I had to dodge another attack from the assassin wielding the electroblade. Anthony caught the assassin by surprise, quickly rendering them unconscious. I was safe, for a very, very short moment.91Please respect copyright.PENANA0Wqhm4vX4x
Two assassins gathered behind the rolling crate. I instantly knew what they wanted to do: burn the crate down.
It was a great way of erasing the evidence. We were aware of the implications: we can't bring out all of the ice cream. Anthony and I were carrying several tubs in our hands, but that's where our limits were. Amber, having defeated one of the assassins, grabbed three more before the crate was pushed into the flames.
It wasn't long before it caught on fire. It was very sad, seeing the reward for the hard-working colonists burning. However, we had at least some of the ice cream, so not everything was turned to ash.
Dawn spotted the assassin who detonated the explosives running away from the fire which they started. She started chasing them rapidly. While Anthony, Amber and I brought the crates to safety, Claudius freed some of the prisoners with help from Sebastian, but they were still pretty slow compared to the all-consuming flames.
- Call Arika! - Claudius shouted, also running away from the deadly flames with Sebastian.
Anthony had to place some of the tubs on the floor to grab his walkie-talkie. He quickly called Arika.
- How's our investigation going? - Arika was unaware of the danger.
- Well, we fought several assassins who are members of the Martians and rescued a few tubs of ice cream before the crate was pushed into a fire started by one of the Martians. Now, it's spreading quickly and we can't let the prisoners die, even if they're evil. Can you hack the system and let everyone free? - Anthony briefed her on the current situation.
- Give me a sec - Arika did her best. It took her fifteen seconds to find her way into a system, another five to set the prisoners free.
Everyone ran frantically, only thinking about survival. We decided to join them, since there wasn't much to salvage. Dawn, however, thought otherwise.
She caught up to the fire-starter and started clobbering them. Amber joined her, along with Sebastian. The three quickly overpowered the assassin and Amber triumphantly pulled the helmet off their face, revealing the last person we expected to see.
Robert Rupert.
- What?! - Amber was visibly shocked by the reveal.
- Supreme, what are we supposed to do? - someone asked Roby through the radio.
- Continue, with our plan, I can handle myself! - Roby punched Amber, sending her flying. Anthony took care of her while Claudius helped me with the ice cream.
It was at this point when the news really hit me:
Roby is Supreme. Roby is the leader of the Martians and we didn't notice until now.
