Anthony, after thanking me for saving his life, chose to stay with the Perseids and make sure that they won't escape. My dad's allies are supposed to help him with that. Meanwhile, our team, led by Einstein, will leave the biodome to find Lim and thwart his plans to bomb the USA.
- Take care - Anthony left us to keep watch over our adversaries.
Because the angry scientists have left the dome to hunt down their boss, we made it to the exit with ease. We put on our chunky spacesuits, underwent yet another decontamination shower and bravely stepped outside.
The Moon's surface was gray and dull, covered with a layer of nasty, sharp lunar dust. The lack of life was a huge contrast to the artificial jungle which we just left. Two rockets were immediately visible with a third one further away, but we knew that there were more. There were no people in the vicinity, except for a lonely astronaut standing next to the nearest launchpad. We decided to head there for some info about the current situation. After all, we don't even know if Lim is still here.
- Maybe we should split up to search faster? - Claudius suggested.
- No, because the distance between the silos is so large that we won't be able to communicate with each other and I want to make sure that you'll be okay - Einstein disagreed. As opposed to Harold, Einstein really cared about us.88Please respect copyright.PENANAjOmUwTUKNY
Reaching the launchpad took a few minutes, because we couldn't really run due to the low gravity. Lunar "running" was pretty much hopping quickly, like a rabbit. Upon getting closer, we clearly saw the rocket.
It was pretty large, being twice the size of our new spaceplane which brought us here. Atop the rocket was an egg concealed by a heat shield, but the bioweapon was clearly there due to the bulged shape of the shield. The rocket will be propelled by a massive main thruster at the bottom and four adjascent, smaller engines.88Please respect copyright.PENANAjld8WxMr1a
To bring the egg from Earth, an even bigger rocket would be needed, but with the moon's lack of atmosphere and lower gravity, launch vehicles were relatively compact, but still impressive. Knowing that all of these rockets were about to take off and turn our country into a fungus-covered hellscape was chilling to say the least.
The lonely astronaut we saw earlier was one of the scientists who was kind enough to expain the situation.
- Lim has brought some of his men to fend us off, so that we won't "sabotage" the operation. It's best to stay outside, like me - he said.
- He's still in there? - Amber asked.
- Yes, but I would advise you to sit it out, unless you don't want to come back. Lim's on high alert and his men are heavily armed - the scientist warned us.
We waited for a bit, pretending to stay out of action, but as soon as the scientist turned around, we made a run, or hop to be specific, for the doorway. This airlock didn't have a decontamination shower, unlike those in the biodome. We only had to take off the spacesuits, without cleaning anything. Einstein told us to be quiet and stealthy, without any abrupt moves. Peeking into the hallway ahead of us, we saw a group of rogue scientists being chased away by Lim's men. Nobody was harmed, but the scientists were in a hurry. They ended up hiding by another airlock and quickly leaving the launchpad behind.
We were careful to not make any loud noises, making sure that the Chinese agents won't notice us. However, most of our stealth was unnecessary, because there was a lot of noise to begin with, mainly coming from the armed agents fending off unwanted visitors.
The walls around us were gray and white, with windows being placed here and there, showing us the pale landscape outside. Some of the windows allowed us to see the rocket being prepared to launch, which reminded us of the lack of time. We had to act quickly.
Through the windows, we were able to see the area surrounding the rocket. To the left of the vehicle was a window wider than all the others, which was most likely the control room. Suspecting that Lim may be there, we chose to come there and check.
We were probably right, because the wide-window room was surrounded by the largest amount of spies. Even though we've fought with many people during our career, those enemies looked especially menacing, with pretty much every body part being covered up with black, bulletproof panels. The only exception was a thin, unprotected strip that allowed the men to see. We hoped to think and strategise, but even the quietest step alerted the enemy agents. Before we knew it, we were in a fight.
With the agents being armed to the teeth, there was no time to plan anything. It wasn't a lengthy battle, but a short winner-takes-all situation. The only thing that mattered at the moment was force. Claudius used his support arm to deal with the first agent. Even though his enemy had a bulletproof vest, the metal attatchment still did hit hard and caught the guard, well, off guard. This gave Amber the time to step in.
Being a skilled fighter, she was in her element. She landed a swift series of targeted punches and kicks that severely weakened the guard, to the point where he gave up his rifle. With this weapon, Amber was quick to overpower a few other guards (without killing anybody), with some help from Claudius and Sebastian. My tactic was simply dodging the enemy attacks, because unlike Amber, I wasn't the best at fighting. My first attempt at a counterattack was to lead the enemy agent into another one, which surprisingly worked. My enemy jumped into another agent, who fell over and slammed into yet another spy. In the end, all three fell like dominoes.
Einstein assisted me in dealing with the last guard, who was promptly finished off by Amber. The whole fight lasted no longer than a minute. After that, we entered the mission control room, not knowing what to expect.
Beneath the wide window was an array of TV-sized screens dwarfing any other setup that I've seen before. Normally, a large amount of people would sit in the conjoined desks lining the room, but now, the only person inside the room, not counting us, was Lim Yazhu.
He was facing the monitors and thus didn't notice us right away. This gave us the time we needed to sneak up on him, but right as we were about to attack, Lim noticed us thanks to a reflection in the windows and swiftly kicked me away, as I got dangerously close to the CEO of BIORBITAL. With the lowered gravity, I flew away for a bit and ended up hitting my head on a computer while landing.
- You really thought that coming here and begging would stop me? The rockets will take off in a minute and you can only join me to observe the spectacle! - Lim exclaimed, but he wasn't angry. He was smiling in an ominous way, in a similar fashion to Leonid.
- We didn't come here to beg - unexpectedly, Einstein pounced onto Lim, catching him by surprise. Our caretaker actually knocked him over and tried his best to prevent him from getting up. Both men were squirming on the floor in a pretty peculiar display, but we had no time to waste.
Arika ran over to one of the computers and tried to find a way to remotely stop the rockets. Code flashed on the screen and only Arika understood it. She managed to locate the other rockets and we only had 30 seconds until they took off.88Please respect copyright.PENANAx8SApufDV6
- I found the navigation code, but it requires a voice command to turn it off - Arika groaned in stress.88Please respect copyright.PENANAhqgPL8HnME
- What's the magic word? - Claudius asked.
- Deactivate, I changed my mind - Arika informed us.
- Deactivate, I changed my mind - I repeated, trying to imitate Lim's voice.
- That's a convincing impersonation, but not for the systems - Arika sighed.
- There's no way for you to deactivate it! - Lim shouted, still tackling our adult supervisor.
A line of code lit up on the screen.
- What's that? - Sebastian noticed.
- He doesn't need to say the whole sentence at once; we only need him to say the words out loud - Arika grinned, having a plan.
She told us about it and Amber ran over to assist Einstein in combatting Lim. It was a tough fight, but I got the impression that our team was getting the upper hand, which meant it was my turn to act.
- Hey, Lim! - I started, trying to sound confident - Aren't you surprised by our change of sides?
- At first I thought you were truly interested in working with me... Ouch! - Lim yelped, as Amber hit him with a lot of strentgth.
- Let him finish - Sebastian commanded and Amber listened.
- ...but then I noticed your suspicious behaviour and I changed my mind... - he said what we wanted him to and it took him a moment to realise his mistake.
That moment was priceless, as Arika was able to override the navigation code and cancelled the launch. We stopped the rockets.
Moreover, two spaceplanes zoomed above us, with one landing on top of the control room. As it turned out, there was an escape hatch above the room, which was promptly forced open by those who arrived in the spaceplane. Lim was trying to crawl his way there, but we successfully stopped him. Amber thought that the newcomers were Chinese reinforcements, but she was positively surprised when American space spies emerged out of the hatch instead. They were the allies mentioned by Anthony, who came to our aid and were shocked by our success.
- Lim has already been dealt with? - one of them asked, dissapointed by not being allowed to beat him up.
- The only thing he needs is to be arrested. Can you cover that? - I asked him.
- Of course! - he responded, happy to catch none other than Lim Yazhu.
- Oh, you're Anthony's son? - one of his coworkers asked.
- Yes, nice to meet you. I'm Chris - I welcomed him.
- Anthony told me a lot about you. I'm Jerry - he joined his comrades to lead a devastated Lim into their spaceplane.
We ended up following the agents, after putting on our spacesuits for the trip to the spaceplane. It took us longer to put on the spacesuits than to use them on our way, but alas, we were happy, because we were finally safe.
