We memorized the layout of the rooms on the map and it seemed oddly familiar. However, we couldn't match it with anything we've seen thus far. We decided look around and see if there's anything matching the map.
Walking around the building from which we escaped, it was oval-shaped and white, with tinted windows around the entire oval. The building was covered in a strange dust that was dirt-coloured.
- Was there an oval-shaped building like this on the map? - Claudius asked.
- Yes there was. A tunnel of some kind led away from it - Anthony recalled.
- A secret tunnel leading to the egg? - Amber suggested.
- Possibly, let's see if it's here - Anthony ordered us to make another loop around the oval building, but we didn't find anything out of the ordinary.
- Are you sure that this is the right building? - Sebastian was loosing faith. The building was pretty large and making a full loop around it was exhausting.
- Maybe there's an entrance inside the building? - I proposed, also unwilling to walk around the building again.
Anthony stopped for a bit, thinking.
- That's a good idea. Could be right - he replied.
- So leaving the office was pointless? - Amber grumped.
- No, because we escaped whoever was on their way to the office. If we stayed, we'd already be done for - Anthony responded.
- How do we sneak back into the office? - I asked, because I had no ideas.
- We'll pretend that we came to work in the office. In other words, we will be janitors - my father announced.
It seemed like Sebastian wanted to add something, but ultimately gave up. We made it back into the oval when someone forgot to close the door after leaving. The person was just a regular scientist. Thanks to our translators, we were able to eavesdrop him.
- Lim's gone, weird... - that's all he said before walking out of our sight.
We swiftly entered the building and found a janitor. Anthony told us to hide as he approached a man who was clearly bored. All of a sudden, dad unleashed an onslaught of punches and kicks that rendered the current janitor unconscious. Anthony than came back to us, bringing us mops and water buckets. He also took the janitor's outfit for himself.
Even though the place was currently empty, it was still better to be disguised. As janitors, we wouldn't be suspicious at all. As it turned out, whoever the scientist was must have entered the CEO's office, as the door was closed, but fortunately not locked, as the scientist didn't have the keys. We were able to come back into the office and inspect the blueprints once more, using the same trick as earlier to open up the hidden compartment. The piece of paper confirmed our suspicions: the entrance to the secret tunnel was, in fact, inside of the building.
After putting the blueprints back on their place again, we went over to the tunnel. Sure enough, the entrance was downstairs, to the right of the office. It was a rusty, metal grate that could be unlocked via a specific passcode, which we obviously didn't know. Claudius assumed that Lim wrote it down somewhere, so we ended up splitting our forces once more, with him and Sebastian checking the office for notes while we pretended to clean the floor in front of the entrance. To our advantage, the floor was really dirty, as if it wasn't properly cleaned for decades.
- Being a janitor is very boring... - Amber yawned.
- No wonder that guy was almost asleep - I noted and she nodded.
Luckily, we didn't have to wait long until Claudius and Sebastian came back, seemingly triumphant.
- 654890 - Sebastian dictated the code.
- There was a "passwords" folder on his laptop. Good thing that we noticed it - Sebastian added.
It seemed like Lim wasn't the best at securing things, probably because he considered his office to be naturally impenetrable deu to the amount of armed guards in the area. Now, he took those exact bodyguards with him to oversee the investigation. According to Claudius, there was a guard near the office when he and Sebastian visited it, but the guy was also bored by his job at seeing two janitors didn't change that. In fact, he was sneakily looking at his smartphone from time to time.
The passcode was correct and we were allowed into the tunnel, which was surprisingly long. It was just as dirty as the floor behind it, with dead foliage leftovers added to the dust. We were a bit surprised when the tunnel led us all the way to the restricted sector.
On one hand, it made sense, because everything in here was, well, restricted. On the other hand, it was surprising for us to arrive in the same place again. We recognised the chamber from which the giant centipede escaped, due to the shattered glass.
Anthony had good memory of the map and navigated the sector without any issues. We passed through rooms and corridors that even I remembered from the map, so we were headed in the right direction. The only problem was that we weren't alone in here.
The centipede, being freed from its captivity, was wildly running around the restricted sector. We were disarmed by Lim and his men when he led us to his office, so we had no way of fighting the creature. Its body was long enough to completely block some places off. Annoyingly, this included the hallway leading to the red room.
- Be quiet, I'll come up with something... - Anthony muttered.
- Get out of our way, you fat insect...! - Sebastian didn't hear him. Anthony hissed and more concerningly, so did the centipede.
I thought it would turn back, but it just continued moving forward, with the sounds of its numerous legs being almost hypnotic. It seems like the creature made a U-turn and broke through the wall to face us. It didn't look happy at all.
- Good job - Anthony sighed.
We had to move out of the way as the bioengineered centipede charged towards us. It didn't hurt anyone, trying to just scare us away. It worked, as we just slowly backed up. The giant insect finally left us alone and moved out of the way. However, we weren't allowed to calm down, as we heard shots ahead of us.
Several whistled past the centipede and flew through the wall next to us, dotting it with tiny holes. The insect hissed again and quickly ran away, leaving us with a group of armed agents ready to shoot us.
As the translators revealed, the agents got clues to our whereabouts from the scientist who left the office, as he contacted the agents, wanting to learn more about Lim's dissapearence. The spies asked him about the people inside the building and he confirmed that there was one adult and four teens inside. It didn't take long for the agents to connect the dots.
Knowing that our time was limited and that we were so close, we made a run for the highlighted room. The agents opened fire from above, but we were able to dodge their bullets. Some of the spies began chasing us down the hallway. We would have continued running, if not for the egg.
Even though it was slightly larger than an oven, it was very menacing. The bioweapon was made of metal, with visible spore pods and biohazard signs above them.
We've been so focused on finding the egg that we didn't think about what we'd do upon arriving, so we just stared at the weapon for a brief moment. The footsteps behind us put more pressure on us. We had to act now.
We obviously wanted to thwart China's plans to invade the US and the simplest way to do so was seemingly destroying the egg. That proved much easier said than done, as puncturing the metallic shell would release the spores into the air. This is why we chose to empty the pods, so that even if the bomb goes off, it wouldn't be dangerous.
As we approached the bioweapon, somebody yelled behind us.
- Stop or we'll shoot! - it was none other than Lim Yazhu, backed by his men.
To our confusion, he suddenly started scratching his legs. Did they itch?
- I should have expected your betrayal since the very beginning... - Lim grunted.
- Lim, not now! We have other things to focus on than your habits...! - one of the guards exclaimed. It seemed like Lim scratched his legs as a form of punishment for doing things incorrectly. Well, that was definitely weird. We quickly forgot about the whole thing when the armed agents aimed at us again.100Please respect copyright.PENANA0PQZvRTde3
Lim listned to his bodyguard and got up, looking at us with outrage.
- You seriously thought that you can stop us? - Lim chuckled - A man with four pathetic kids?
- Hey, we're not pathetic! - Amber exclaimed, but Anthony silenced her.
- That doesn't matter, because you're about to meet your demise - the CEO of BIORBTIAL hissed.
We realised that our enemies were equipped with laser blasters and there was no way of avoiding them. Our fates would have been sealed, if not for one thing: the Perseids.
During Lim's short monologue, they managed to sneak into the red room, probably by following us earlier. Rill Gomana put up his viking axe and threw it at the egg. His aim was horrifyingly accurate. The weapon severely damaged the metal shell and purple mist emerged from the egg, soon filling the entire room.
Dawn and Leonid watched all of this unfold, seemingly amused by the damage caused by Rill. Lim stood in silence before his guards forced him out of the room and ran away themselves. The Perseids also quickly left, locking up the doors leading to the room. This meant that there was no escape for us. Or was it?100Please respect copyright.PENANA0cz4yzyzsg
Out of the purple fog emerged two figures. I thought that they were additional enemies, but they weren't. Moreover, they were faces which I recognised and which I really didn't expect to see.
