To anybody on the outside,
I managed to finish a little bit of the project. It's not much, but it's something. It seems like I'm ahead of schedule, but I know that's not entirely true. I was supposed to write an entry for this blog on the 5th, but I was busy that day; I was rebuilding the project once again.
I'm starting off the project with a short visual novel. This will line up with designing 2D assets, which consist of mostly background images and character bios; I will share them on here once they're created. I managed to build the media player and the email system for the app, but I will likely need to learn YAML to store the encyclopedia data, since JSON would be a bit tedious.
Anyways, do you know of the Spongebob episode known as, 'Rock Bottom'? It's my favorite episode of the series, and I fondly remember how surreal it was. I used it as an example, due to the popularity of the show. It was one of my earliest exposures to surrealism, alongside the game, 'Yume Nikki'.
I like to view myself as an outsider, a person who only explores a bit before disappearing, just like the spiders, who appear in the corner of my room. I may grab a meal at a forgotten cafe, or buy a late-night snack at a convenience store, but once you see me, you won't see me again.
I enjoy the silent, almost empty, ever-expanding worlds. It feels safe, simple, uncontrolled, free from the noisy and complicated things in this modern age. I dream of these liminal worlds, and sometimes I wish I could control them, stay in them for as long as I like, take the time to learn its native language, and find its every nook and cranny.
I wish to explore its non-Euclidean spaces, listen to a foreign species communicate to one another, or see how they live differently from humanity. I have favorite genres in media, just like everyone else, but I'm not always engaging in them, for I am likely exploring something different.
The one thing to understand about these surreal worlds, is that they're not always formed by logic or reason, but often emotion. These kind of worlds can only be explained by using the emotions you feel. These worlds can be dangerous, for if you're mind is filled with fear or anger, then the world may reflect it back.
