Today feels like a wonderful day. The weather may say otherwise, but nothing could ruin it—because today, I visited my sister. And yes, I finally convinced my dear partner Kai, a very hardworking soul, to come along. I’m not exaggerating.
I’m a traveler, you know—helping villagers, delivering goods, aiding merchants or hunters. It keeps me busy enough, though it never makes one rich or respected like the elites. But my dear partner insists on working twice as hard. Honestly, I’m lucky to have someone I get along with. Most traveler-hunter partnerships are built only on money and coldness.
Now we are walking toward my sister’s house.
Kai walks a little ahead of me while I pick flowers. My sister loves flowers—violets, roses, daisies… Kai seems at ease, though I can feel the tension on his shoulders. He isn’t used to warm households. Before me, he always worked alone, in cold and hostile places. But he doesn’t hate my sister or her home. He even admitted it’s not so bad—though he said it in his own reserved way.
To me, Kai is quiet and calm. With a single look, he can silence annoying men—I’m not joking. Yet he’s also gentle. Even if he acts stern, I could never hate him. He loves animals—especially puppies—he loves writing, though he thinks I don’t know, and… he loves me, I’m sure of it. I’ve seen him smile at many of my jokes, though he’ll deny it.
And whenever we stay at my sister’s house, he always drinks green tea. He adores it.
He is a good person—one who speaks little, but says much. He’s my friend, one of the only two I have. (The other is Thomas—he’s cool too.)
At last, we arrive. Kai pulls his hood over his head, but lets me knock on the door first. Navia already knows it’s me; she greets me warmly and takes the flowers I gathered for her.
“Welcome, Leif. Is your friend outside?” she asks, smelling the bouquet.
“He’s waiting, like always.”
Her pale blond hair catches the light. It’s the same color as mine, though her eyes are soft rose while mine are dark brown. Unlike her tidy appearance, I stand there in messy clothes and with black demon limbs—a sharp contrast I’ve learned to accept.
Kai… Kai was standing quietly behind me, watching us with his silver-gray eyes. He didn’t step in until Navia spoke his name.
“Come inside, Kai. It’s too cold.”
Only then did he enter, lowering his hood to reveal his black hair, neatly braided as always, though a few strands had fallen loose. The only scar visible was the one on his left cheek.
Sometimes, while Navia and I chat, Kai just sits silently, listening. He rarely joins in. Most of the time he only nods, but sometimes my jokes make the corner of his mouth twitch. For him, that’s almost a laugh.
When Navia asks for help in the kitchen, I leave him alone by the fire. He just sits there, listening to the crackle of the flames.
As she hands me a tray of cups, Navia whispers, “He seems calmer today.”
I nod. “He likes it here, even if he won’t say so.”
We return with the tea. Kai accepts his cup with a small nod.
We didn’t need words. Warmth, tea, and silent companionship—321Please respect copyright.PENANAjnttfc6w9x
That was enough for all of us.
