明孝宗 朱祐樘是明憲宗之子。他即位後，罷黜奸臣，重新起用之前被貶至遠方的正直之士，又任用馬文升等忠臣。

在弘治二年（公元1489年），有中亞國家進貢獅子和鸚鵡，明孝宗推卻了這些「貢品」。

在弘治七年（公元1494年）的冬天，西域又有人進貢獅子！明孝宗聽從大臣的進言，「詔還之」。
