Yesterday I told my mom I wanted to join a theatre group. She was thrilled. like, jumped up and down while squealing thrilled. She drove me to the nearest theatre group and had me submit an audition form. Her grin never left her face. After that, I got called in to do an audition to be, as they put, "A unique character in an original musical written by one of our cast." I, being the normal person I am, was extremely excited.
That was until they handed me a potato costume and told me my audition was in 10 minutes.
So here I am, wearing a potato in front of a bunch of judges who are not doing so well at concealing their laughter.
"Miss Klin, what are you auditioning for?"
"Apparently a potato."
"We were asking what your character's name is"
I fumbled with my script and opened it to my part. "Potato" I spoke out loud. I looked up at the faces of the judges and smirked a little. "You could've been a little less obvious. "Go ahead and start."
I sighed and looked down at the script. "Hey everyone! I'm Potato and I'm here to tell you that being a potato is cool!" I glanced up at the judges that were failing to keep a straight face. This had to be a prank. I don't know what I would do if I actually got the part. I continued on. "Being a potato is superrrr fun! You get a whole bunch of people that love every inch of you and if you try hard enough, you can turn into a potato chip! Just ask my friend Potato Chip!" I put the script down a that was the end of the audition piece. I flicked my eyes around the room.
"Okay you cannot be serious. Who the heck wants to be fried in a deep fryer?"
"You're in. Good job!" The judge that was laughing earlier smiled at me.
"Uh, no thanks. I'd rather not play a potato."
"Don't you get it? If you can play a potato well, we think you can play anything. It's a prank. You've got yourself a part in the next play we put on. Thank you for your time"
