Main character: Me(X)//Time: One day//Place: A city
I have two adorable little black cats—one chubby and round like a fluffy charcoal ball, and the other slim and graceful like a shadow with whiskers.
That afternoon, the sun was warm, a gentle breeze swept through the backyard, and the leaves rustled softly in the wind.
I had barely pushed open the wooden back door when—
Whoosh—!
Two black blurs shot past my feet.
Tap!
One after the other, they leapt gracefully onto the fence and disappeared into the bushes outside with a swish, leaving only their tails flicking in the air for a brief moment.
Watching their familiar little backs vanish into the distance, I just simply smiled.
After all, exploring the outdoors was their favorite thing in the world.
So I thought nothing of it.
Until sunset.
Standing by the door, I called for them to come home.
"MoMo—!"
"MuMu—!"
Not long afterward, two dark shapes came flying onto the roof with a whoosh.
I looked up—
And froze.
The number was right.
The size was right.
The ears were right.
Even the one-fat-one-skinny body proportions were exactly the same.
But staring back at me…
Were two pink-and-white cats.
"...?!!"
I stood there with my mouth hanging open, my brain completely blank.
What was this?
Some new breed?
Or had my cats secretly evolved while they were outside?
I rubbed my eyes and stared at them suspiciously before calling out again.
"MoMo...?"
"MuMu...?"
The moment the names left my lips—
"Meow!"
Plop!
The two pink-and-white cats immediately jumped down from the roof.
The chubby one flopped onto the ground beside my feet and rolled over to expose its belly.
Meanwhile, the skinny one rubbed its head affectionately against my leg, purring nonstop.
Every movement.
Every expression.
Every little habit.
They were exactly like my cats.
Still half-convinced and half-confused, I went back inside and grabbed two Churu treats.
Sure enough.
The moment they saw the packages, both pairs of eyes lit up.
"Meow! Meow! Meow!"
They circled around me excitedly, tails standing straight up as they eagerly crowded closer.
While they were happily licking away, I carefully parted the fur on their backs.
And then I saw it.
That familiar birthmark.
My pupils practically exploded.
It really was my cats!!
"WHY ARE YOU TWO A DIFFERENT COLOR?!!"
I couldn't help but scream.
The two little cats seemed startled by my voice.
"Meow?!"
They immediately abandoned their unfinished treats and bolted toward the house.
That's when I suddenly noticed something.
Their paw pads were covered in pinkish-white powder.
And wherever they stepped, they left behind tiny pale pink paw prints.
At that moment, realization hit me.
"Where on earth did you two roll around to cover yourselves in paint?!"
"Don't you dare run away!!"
After a tremendous amount of effort, I finally cornered them in the bathroom and quickly shut the door before they could escape again.
The moment I lowered them into a basin of water, both cats let out low growls and struggled desperately to climb out.
And thus, the following scene unfolded inside the shower room:
I caught one.
The other squeezed under my arm and escaped.
I caught the second one.
The first one climbed onto the sink and made a run for it.
Water splashed everywhere.
Cat fur flew through the air.
By the end of it, I was completely soaked, with wet hair plastered to my forehead, looking like I'd just survived a hurricane.
After an exhausting battle, I finally managed to wash both cats back to their original black color and placed them in the dryer to slowly fluff them back up.
Looking at the two soft, fluffy little black furballs once again, I couldn't help but ask:
"So... just where did you two go to end up dyeing yourselves like this?"
The little troublemakers merely yawned lazily, flicked their tails, and slowly replied with a single,
"Meow~"
