It was dinnertime and, as usual, the whole village assembled into the local tavern. The children were the most excited because, after eating the delicious meal, they gathered near a little dais. Here, every evening the Bard sang and told many tales of old.
One of the Kids asked him "What are you going to sing?" "Mhh, let me see... Have you ever heard the tale of Ultur the Great? No? Well then..." . He started playing on his little guitar some misterious melody and started narrating.
"It was a time of great turmoil. The troll's army went through the portal that connects the two continents of the world. With a surprise attack they invaded, killed, raped and destroyed many dwarvish towns and villages. The situation was dire for the Czatul House who managed those lands.
They were losing terrain. And quikly. They were only safe behind the great walls of their bigger cities or by barricating inside their mines. They needed a solution to turn tables before they reached the breaking-point.
In a mine not so distant from the front, where the dwarf were fighting with the trolls, in a workshop there was a dwarf who was mixing different substances. She was trying to make a new alloy, sturdy enough to substain the impact of a troll slash.
Ultur was her name, she was from the Czatul House and as she was trying a new combination of substances, she was distracted by a shouting soldier "They broke through the main entrance! The trolls are in the mine!" Shaken by the sudden noise Ultur mixed in accidentally some Werqu powder. It was used to create magic circuits letting magic happens through mecanisms instead of people. When the powder touched the mixture everything exploded. In that moment Ultur had a big brainwave and said to the soldier "Keep them out as long as you can. Do whatever it takes to buy time. I'm gonna make them pay for all the lives that had taken and destroied! For my husband! For my Children!".
As the soldiers went through every trick they had in order to stall the enemy. Ultur Worked hours upon hours non-stop and the result of her work was a weapon that revolutionized war forever: a magic gun. It was able to fire differen projectiles depending on the magic infused into them. What's more it was able to recharge and repair automatically thanks to the Werqu circuits inside. After some practice rounds Ultur was ready to fight, so she prepped and carried outside. She started shooting at every troll that she encountered. One shot, one kill. Thanks to her bravery the soldiers regained their spirits and together they repelled the trolls.
Half an year later the last battle before the great troll portal, between dwarves and trolls, was happening. In that chaos Ultur the troll-killer (as such she was called at first) fought through layers upon layers of trolls. At some point she located the chieftain of the troll horde. "You! You! You slaughtered my family and i'm gonna make you pay for it!" "Fool of a dwarf! Can't you see that you have condemned us all?" the unexpected answer made Ultur block "What? What are you saying?" "Don't you see any differences in fighting us now and the trolls who killed your family or the trolls that you defeated till six months ago?" "Now that I think about it, they were slower and... stupid in some way compared to you guys" "Exactly. That's because they were posessed by demons! We crossed the portals to come to help you defeat them before they reach our continent, we had to kill many of our own who became posessed... even my own daughter." After these revelations they called for a cease-fire and started comparing notes of the situation and sharing intel. It was clear that all the attaks, including the one who killed Ultur's family, were made by posessed trolls. Probably they were merchants or travellers who crossed often between continents through portals.
After the truce they decided to join hands and build a joint front in order to defeat the demons. And one year later they finally managed to defeat the last of the posessed trolls. For all her achievements, both magical and martial, Ultur became known ad Ultur the Great. Both troll and dwarf chieftain gained their revenge and became solid allies. And that alliance is still up and running to this day!"
"Wow! That was a really interesting story!" Said one of the tavern's customers ". You really think so? Then how about I let you on a little secret about this story that I haven't told the children?" the customer was really excited "Oh! Yes if you please." The Bard made a sign to come closer, and so he did. "The alliance stopped the demons by killing every posessed troll yes?! But little they know about the demon Lord who governed over them. They didn't know that without taking out the demon Lord the posessed troll horde could happen all over again..." Said the Bard while a couple of Horns grew on his forehead...
