poems - Don’t be silly, that’s not right! Don’t you know anything?

I know many things.

I know that you love me,

And if I cried you’d love me still

And if I died nothing would be still

Until you loved again.

I know that when the sun dips beneath the horizon

It rises on the other side of the world

And the other side of the world is not as far as it seems.

I know that the paint-stains won’t ever come out

Of our bedroom’s once-cream carpet

From when you painted a mural on the walls in my favourite colour.

I know that the stars are your family now

So I wave them to them each night

And I really hope they approve of the way you make me alight

With the need to fight for the chance to love you.

I know that nothing in life comes easy,

I know that you like your eggs sunny side up,

And I know that there’s things that I don’t know

About you and your world and what goes on inside your head

But I know that I can learn

If you can teach.
