even as it fades

You remind me of a song with lyrics lost

Yet each syllable rattles around my head

Making music of music, a note for each aspect of you,

Summed by chords: the way my heart flutters to see you,

Summed in each note: each moment in your company.

You remind me of a pocket watch

Or a rainbow cast through rain

Or a secret whispered and never heard again,

Or all these things at once, together – an ensemble,

And I hear your song as it is sung to me,

Made of circumstance and personality

And chance and fate and you and me

And I listen even as it fades.
