dusk

Blue fades into black behind her.

Butterflies made of light

Dance gently in the air;

This is the difference between dusk and night,

Between magic and darkness, between one and a pair,

Because one of a kind is rare

But two of kind means you aren’t alone.

Alone, like she is, as she stands

The frayed edges of water lap at her feet,

Pure magic clutched in her hands.

Blue fades into black behind her,

But each colour flows around her

As if they both serve to remind her

That between day and night, pretty as they were,

There is dusk.

Dusk, when light dances

Dusk – there’s no second chances;

If you blink, you’ll miss it,

So she doesn’t blink, not even one eye,

she stands still and watches

As the butterflies kiss her goodbye

And leave her,

No longer alone - joined by stars that stand still.
