Maybe its not poetry you need but to be analytic with your emotions. I find when I'm writing, be it stories or lyrics or a letter even, my goal is to make that reader understand what it was I was feeling when I wrote it. To do that though you have to be able to deeply empathize with them and their plights. What is it that brings them down or lifts them up? Is it the same things for you? That's always where I begin. May help, may not. Just throwing it out there.
Here's the link to my poetry folder on DA. Most of them need a serious look over, but I hope they help.
One thing I find with poetry and music is that poetry begs for descriptions and imagery, whereas songs are more based upon rhyme and fluctuate with metaphors and straight prose.
Lol... Do I seem like the type of guy to write country songs or ballads? Actually... Don't answer that. My band plays mostly punk rock, which I guess is good cause the emotion is a lot more important than the actual lyrics anyway
@Bobby Coxx, Nah I'm listing different music examples. As a song writer I say the rhythm also counts. Like it's not going to be flat all the way through, because that would be boring. So some parts might speed up making the lyrics seem less wordy. Personally I love rock and would be happy to listen to your music.🙃
@JellyKat, see I feel like rhythm isn't even my problem, you know? Like structure wise it's fine, I just have a hard time writing lyrics that don't suck lol. I appreciate that though, I'll shoot you a link once I get the album recorded!
