That evening the sky was lit with lighting as a thunderstorm rolled in the rumbling thunder shook the house giving an illusion it may not be entirely natural. Luke put milla and oscar to bed while Leah cleaned the kitchen and tidied the play pen. Lara lay on the sofa completely helpless and growing more and more restless as the minutes ticked by. “Leah, is there anything I can do to help?” she asked desperately trying to get up whistling in pain, Leah rushed over pushing her back into the sofa, “You can help by resting and working on healing yourself.” and as Luke came down the stairs he called out, “The best thing for you right now is to not get up, and that's an order!” He was so demanding in his deep voice that if he wasn’t married to Leah, one of her best friends, Lara would have been all over him.
“Mum will be safe by tomorrow, we will keep in touch with Layla over the phone, we will go about our routines as normal, Lara you will be able to start rehabilitation in roughly a month and we can build your strength back, and we will be ready.” Leah announced more to reassure herself more than anything. “You should get some rest to,” Lara tried to convey looking towards Luke who had joined then in the door way of the living room leaning against the frame for help, clearly getting the idea he walked over to Leah and insisted she come upstairs to bed to get some rest as it had been an extremely traumatic and stressful day, Leah was being extremely stubborn coming up with excuses left right and centre, “what about Lara? “What about dinner? “What about the kids' school lunches?” Luke looked at her with a concerned look in his eyes, “I will make you melted cheese on toast and i will bring it to you on a tray you can eat it in bed, I am more than capable to make lunches and Lara is perfectly safe I will get her a blanket and another pillow which will make her more than comfortable to sleep down her for the night till we can make more permanent arrangements tomorrow when you are rested and thinking clearly.” Leah was still unconvinced, “Milla likes her lunch a specific way and what about crumbs in bed that's observed also it gets extremely cold down here at night.” Luke could tell exhaustion was fast approaching and took things into his own hands literally, he scooped Leah off her feet and carried her upstairs much to Lara’s amusement once he had settled her in their bed he marched back downstairs took six slices of bread out of the loaf he cut up cheese slices and laid them on top he lined a tray with grease proof paper moved the bread and cheese onto the try and into the oven he turned the timers to fifteen minutes and then made the school lunched and as he closed the fridge door the timer buzzed he found a bed tray table and three plates he took the try out the oven and the cheese had melted perfectly he put two slices on each plate bought one to Lara and then with a glass of water he took the tray table to Leah who Lara colour now hear her mumbling about crumbs and Luke quietly shouting her down saying “I can change the sheets tomorrow and you can shower tomorrow before your shift there are ways around everything. Now eat and then sleep.” His last request was definitely more of an order. When he returned downstairs he cleaned the kitchen before relaxing with his own cheese toast on the sofa opposite Lara. he tried to make small talk but he wasn’t very good so he jumped right to the chase, “Before Leah gets home tomorrow im going to have my buddy come and take a look at your leg as im not as good with minor things as i used to be.” This seemed odd to Lara, “Why before Leah gets home? It seems like you are keeping it a secret?” Keeping secrets from Leah did not sit right with Lara in the slightest, "It's not a secret I will tell her when she gets back but she doesn't need that unnecessary right now as I told her it isn’t anything serious. My hope is that it's not but he can also properly bandage it for you.” Lara didn’t want to keep anything from Leah but it wasn’t lying so it would just have to do for now. Once they finished their food Luke cleared away the plates and washed up. He turned on the electric fireplace and said, “This will warm the room a little more, I will get you that pillow and blanket now.” He disappeared back upstairs and returned with what he had said, the pillow was the same plane white and the blanket was cream and extremely fluffy bubble material, “Leah insisted on this one,” he was clearly trying to explain he wouldn't have picked this especially in a store, “It’s okay you are still manly a blanket choice can’t change that.” Lara joked, Luke laughed shaking his head slowly, “You are funny i now know where, Leah gets it,” he sniggered, “Thats right I’m the bad influence on your wife,” they now were both Laughing which was a great relief at the end of the awful day they had had. The small moments of relief were what would keep them going. “Let me know if you need anything.” Luke said as the laughter died away, "I'm good for now but will do.” Lara replied as Luke turned off the light as he left. The storm grew closer and lightning lit up the room through the curtained windows as Lara drifted into an uneasy painful sleep. Every thunder clap jolted her awake till the early hours of the morning when it calmed down and Lara fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning she woke up with a start at six o’clock. It was a hectic whirlwind of noise and chaos. The kids were yelling for pancakes and hoping for ice cream as monday morning breakfast and Leah looked exhausted trying to get ready for the last minute shift shift she was called in for at the hospital. Luke had surrendered and was cooking while being harassed by Milla hugging his leg and Oscar running rouge around the kitchen island. Leah kissed Luke on the cheek, kissed Milla on the crown of her luscious blond hair, and caught Oscar to kiss him on the forehead before she headed out taking their metallic, horizon blue, Audi, A5 avant to work.
Luke managed to have the kids dressed, packed for school and out the door by seven thirty finally leaving Lara in the quiet with a vat of water which was really just a four liter bottle of water, and a bowl of fruit which she slowly nibbled on still not having had her appetite return. The wind was strong as it hit the windows creating loud gushes as its cause was intercepted. Laying on the sofa for the entire day listening to music channels was more exhausting than she had anticipated and about mid afternoon she started to need to use the toilet. About after an hour of trying to ignore the impulse the urge got too strong Lara shifted her leg to the small coffee table which luckily had wheels and made her way through the kitchen into the side passage which had two doors one which led to the back garden and the gait to the front garden and one two the downstairs bathroom which is the one she opened. It was larger than she remembered, which was perfect. She wheeled the table in which great difficulty but she managed. But as she wheeled her way back out of the kitchen she started getting slight shooting pains, as just as she got into the living room she was caught red handed by Luke and his doctor friend he had bought over, “Are you crazy!” He yelled seeing her trying to wheel her way back around the sofa. Luke ran over and carried her the rest of the way, settling her leg back on the pillows, “I’m sorry but nature calls.” Lara snipped defensively. “What's done is done, let Adrian here have a look and then he can wrap it up for you.” Luke insisted, “It’s not exactly like I have a choice, now do I?” Lara scoffed and Luke shook his head.
Adrian was still in his doctor's coat and wore black rectangle glasses which went wonderfully with his graying hair, giving him the sense of wisdom. He did all the same checks Luke had done and then carefully removed the magazines and unbuckled the belts to them methodically bandaging Lara's leg as a professional would. Lara felt no pain throughout the entire process and when he was done he gave her a reassuring look and said, “It doesn't seem to be anything overly serious especially under the circumstances in roughly four weeks you should be able to start putting weight on it i recommend getting crutches and in six to eight weeks you should be able to walk on it fully. Now I know you won't be able to come in to have it removed after the six to eight weeks so,” turning to Luke he said, "Tomorrow I will show you how to remove one without the specific medical grade tools you would realistically need.” Luke nodded and then glanced at the clock, it was three fifteen Leah would be home with Milla and Oscar any moment now. 20Please respect copyright.PENANAFVffxF4wEO
