To Like a Poem

I like a poem

That slithers in beneath the skin

Curls into a spiky ball

And an itchy cyst becomes

I like a poem

That sits in your lap

And stabs when you least expect

Making you suppress a little moan

I like a poem

That flitters by twilight

On the little wings of sprites

Or lands on the hat of a gnome

I like a poem

That slides along

On the twirled colored stripes

Of a rainbow on the roam

I like a poem

That carries a river

But no boat

Leaving you in lakes unswum

I like a poem

That likes itself

That writes itself

Leaving the poet at home
