Alone

My floor is a mess

Littered with memories of outfits

Worn in glittering excitement and-

The desire to be poetic

I lie in the bed with an imagination

As large as the moon herself

As large as the ocean that swallows us

Upon early morning light -

I turn to an empty spot, I see.

I imagine the fictitious version

Of you lying there.

As the sun sets in the summer

And the sun rises to the promise of fall

I fall for the never present promise of you

Flesh; skin, and bones I'll never get to touch

As mine alone.

Skin and bones I wish I was touching right now.

The sun sets again tonight.

Though, my imagination escapes me

And finally-

I am alone.
