“Ok. So, the night you left it was quiet. But after midnight, the muffled cries were enough to tell us that either a) you broke up with her, or b) you left. Since we all knew how much you love her, we went with option ‘b’. Then we went on with life as it was. Well, two days later, she came out and she looked like someone just killed her best friend. Which, technically, someone almost did.”
“What do you mean?”
“You are her best friend. Anyway, that evening she told us she was going to find you. Constellation pulled Michael out of the kitchen, he convinced us to go without Asteroid, but not before he made her even more upset by insisting you were at Bill’s. She just didn’t want to believe you were at the single worst place to be. After poor Asteroid went crying to your room, Michael told us he works for the Illuminati, gave us these suits, and said we needed to leave at midnight. We did. We teleported to Bill’s and found the door unlatched. We snuck in, but he caught us after ten minutes of searching. Then he shoved us all in a closet. Yesterday he brought us here. That’s it. We had no clue that Asteroid followed us.”
“I see. Thank you for coming to look for me.” I look at Asteroid and see her looking at Meteor. Her eyes are filled with love and concern. I don’t want to destroy whatever little world she’s in now that Meteor is here. But I have to.
“Who wants to get some food? I went exploring yesterday, and the room after the couch room is a dining room. There are panels on the wall where you type in whatever food you want. Two minutes later, it pops up through a hole in the table!”
“I’m good,” Asteroid mumbles.
“Aster, you need to get some food in your system. You don’t have to eat much. Just a little.” Meteor sounds genuinely concerned.
“Okay. If it makes you feel better.” He picks up the girl, who is looking thinner than usual. We all follow him through the doorways and into the dining room. On one side of the table, there’s a bench instead of chairs. That’s where Meteor sits. He puts Asteroid next to him and she leans her head on his shoulder. He wraps his arm around her thin body.
“What do you want, guys? I’ll order it for you.” I get everyone’s order. Except Asteroid’s and Meteor’s. Meteor insists upon ordering her waffles. When they appear through the hole, he takes them and tells her she needs to eat at least two of them. She does. Asteroid falls asleep twice, however, and Meteor has to gently wake her up. He eventually just has her stretch out on the bench with her head on his lap. He strokes her hair with his left hand while eating his eggs with his right.
“So… about escaping. How are we gonna get out of here? All of our teleport bracelets were confiscated,” I say. Meteor looks down at Asteroid.
“Not all of them,” he says cryptically.

“What? You want to escape using only one bracelet? My bracelet?”
“Yes. We need to experiment. You don’t want me to die, do you?” My face pales.
“No. No, I don’t.”
“Good. Now, I was exploring with Michael and we found a mechanics lab. We made a scanner that could detect cameras and microphones. We found one in each room and disabled them. We need to tinker with your bracelet so we can make more. We have a risky plan B, but we really don't want to use it unless we have to. You won’t like it.” I hand him my bracelet.
“What’s plan B?”
“When Galaxy comes in, Michael strangles him.”
“What!?”
“I told you you wouldn’t like it.” I gulp.
“Let’s just try our hardest to quintuplicate the bracelet, okay?”
“Okay, Aster.” Meteor hugs me close to him and says, “Go get a sandwich or something. Bring it into the lab and sit in there with me. You seriously need to eat.”
I sigh. “Fine. A small sandwich.”
“Good.” I grab a peanut butter and pickle sandwich, bring it into the lab and sit on a stool in the corner.
“Meteor?”
“Yeah, Asteroid?”
“I was thinking. Maybe we don’t have to strangle Bill-- My dad. If the bracelet can’t be duplicated, what if my boots can turn other people invisible, too? If someone opens the door, we can walk out right under their nose!”
“Oh! Great idea! That is a whole lot less morbid than killing Galaxy. I’ll go grab the team. And some vitamin supplements. You’re so skinny!” I shake my head, annoyed.
“Let’s do it tomorrow. It’s after eleven.”
“Ok, Aster. For you.”88Please respect copyright.PENANAAbFgcOr9cD
