In a village to the west, a weary traveler entered a blacksmith’s shop. The traveler told the blacksmith that he could become wealthy from a reward for doing a distinct task, but he must swear to the gods that he will never speak of the task. The blacksmith agreed.259Please respect copyright.PENANA45gXmPA0EI
The stranger took a large gold bar from his cloak and asked the blacksmith to make a horseshoe with it. After the task was finished, the traveler led him to the Winter Valley near the kingdom’s border.259Please respect copyright.PENANAGtJTj6kTxw

After a day’s travel, they came to a hidden cavern shrouded in brush and rocks. A great golden light gleamed from the cavern. On the floor was an army of knights in full armor, resting their armored heads on saddles in slumber. In their hands were various weapons, swords, battle-axes, and spears. The walls were lined with beautiful sleeping horses covered with blankets made of immaculate cloth and horseshoes made of gold.259Please respect copyright.PENANAb2ffh7wrcZ

The traveler told the surprised blacksmith to replace the broken shoe of one of the extraordinary stallions with the golden horseshoe he had smithed. The horse did not stir even when the blacksmith tacked the golden horseshoe to the stallion's hoof.259Please respect copyright.PENANANt2JtHT5Jm
The interested blacksmith asked many questions, but this was all the traveler would tell him: the knights had been in a deep slumber for countless and they would not wake until the time came for a great war.259Please respect copyright.PENANA2WJJdRhU5I

On that day, thunder would quake the earth and the sky, giant trees would break like twigs, and mountains would crumble. The Knights would then charge out of the cavern to fight for the Northern Kingdom once more.259Please respect copyright.PENANArMg6JVlgYI

When all was done, the traveler escorted the blacksmith back to his village and made him swear once again to not tell a soul of what he had seen. The traveler gave payment to the blacksmith with a bag of gold and disappeared without a trace.259Please respect copyright.PENANAGBtwdl7t6J

The blacksmith was foolish and could not keep his promise. First, he told his family and then the villagers. Soon it became that everyone knew his secret. The moment the blacksmith broke his promise, his gold became dust and he could not find the cavern again no matter how much time he spent searching.
