        兩年一度的英國廣播公司全球歌唱家大賽即將開始，這回國內歌劇協會打算指派現年33歲的溫蒂代表參加，但是表演藝術界掀起不少反對聲浪，就連溫蒂昔日的教師也勸告學生不要參加。

　　猶豫之餘，一位穿著俗氣的老嫗前來建議溫蒂去找自己的母親談談再決定也不遲。打從父親被抓走之後，母親與姐姐也拋下自己遠走高飛，溫蒂憶起過往與母親的種種，陷入複雜的情感之中，而這些都不是生長在「正常家庭」的彼得能理解的。
