Random Things to Get Me Through This Little Thing Called High School - A Poetic Rant This Time

Standing behind this curtain

Feeling lost and so alone

I feel as though you don't know me

And neither do I

I smile and say I'm okay

But all my words are lies

Falling like molten metal from my lips

I'm hiding behind a wall that I've erected

To shelter... what?

Me from the world?

Or to shelter the world from me?

I'm full of pain and unshed tears

But who knows that except for me?

I never complain or speak to another soul

Or share my ideas with a world that is unaccepting of creativity

My stories may be dark

My plots morbid and filled with fear

But I tone it down and I still hear them say

"Your writing is too dark."

But can I help it?

Not everything in fantastical

And not everything is realistic

If I write something dark

Shouldn't it be accepted for what it is and not who I am?

I'm a bright person who writes dark stories

But my stories are not a reflection of who I am

My mind is not always filled with scenes from a book

And it's not always filled with scenes from the real world

But it is always filled with ideas

Ideas that the world will reject

I'm told writing books won't make you money

That I should get a well-paying job

But I'd rather work at a job that I love

And never work a day in my life

I'll chase my dreams

And I won't give up

So I'll keep writing

And doing what I love

And if my stories are dark

Well, the world is just going to have to deal with it

Because I'm coming

And I'll take this world by storm

So raise the curtain

Alone and lost, yet forever filled with determination

The show must go on
