Waking up, feeling the sun on your shoulders, with your lovely husband next to you, was the best thing in the whole world, but not on days like this, when you needed to wake up earlier and go to work. You always wanted to work as a doctor, so it wasn’t something that you didn’t like or felt like you don’t want to work that day. You were saving people’s lives, this was something that not everyone can do. Besides, you also could meet your friends, spend time with them or even meet a new one.
But now, you are a mother. Life wasn’t easy in every aspect, especially after your mom, Camille died. Your dad, Hank, took it very hard. You and your brother Justin were there for him in every moment, and so did Erin. She was like your sister, you were very close to her. Justin at this point was different. You and he had a kinda difficult relationship. You didn’t agree with him on most of the things in life, so it was hard to even talk with each other.
When things went better, when you finally have started to talk to Justin, like a normal sibling, your world just broke. Justin died, leaving his son and his wife. At this time, you were in an early relationship with Jay, he helped you in this hard time. You built a strong bond with him. After a long time of grieving, he decided to take another step. He proposed and 2 years later you got married. Now, you have a son together. Justin Patrick Halstead. Your miracle is the best thing that happened to you and Jay. Raising him was the most beautiful process.
“You really need to work today? Maybe we can stay in bed for the rest of the day? Will is taking Justin today anyway.” Jay asked.
“Yeah and because of his free day I took the extra shift, remember? Besides, you have work today too.” you smiled and went to change your clothes.
“But, that can change. Please.”
“Get up, Hailey is going to pick you up in 20 minutes, because I’m taking the car today.” he looked at you confused.
“Don’t you dare take my little truck to work girl.” he got up and ran to the kitchen. “Where did you put keys?!” he yelled.
“I’m not telling you. And know if you excuse me, I need to make breakfast for our son.”
“And me.” he corrected you. You walked into the kitchen when he grabbed you from behind and kissed your neck. Then he went to the bathroom and got changed.

“Y/L/N! You’re up, trauma 3!” Maggie told you when you walked out of the break room.
“What happened? Why are there so many people?” she looked at you with pain in her eyes. You knew that something really bad happened.
“Shooting in Millennium Park, they didn’t catch the shooter.”
“Okay, let’s go! Call Will and tell him that we need him now!”
You ran straight to trauma 3. This day started pretty hard and now you needed all you could get.
“Let’s move him on my count 1,2,3!” Sir, what’s your name?“ you asked the man who they just brought in.
"D-David…”
“Okay David, do you know where we are? You remember what happened?” fortunately he didn’t get the bullet, he got a pretty bad head injury and his leg was broken, but you knew that he’ll tell you more information than anyone right now.
“I was with my wife and we heard screams, then some doctor started to help us, he was injured too, I don’t know what happened to him.”
“Okay, we’ll help you, just sit tight and I’ll be right back.” you went to ER to take another patient but you saw Jay in the hallway. You couldn’t stop with your work so you went to another person and brought him to trauma 4.
“Maggie, did you call Will?” you asked when she stepped into the room.
“He didn’t answer. I tried almost 10 times.”
“I’m scared. He took Justin today and I don’t even know where they are.”
“Hey, think positive Y/N, it’s gonna be okay.” she hugged you.
When you finished with another patient, you decided to talk to Jay. Maybe he knew Will’s plans for the day. You saw him, talking to one of the people from the scene. He looked kinda worried.
“Jay? Can we talk?” you interrupted.
“Y/N? Oh gosh, I’m glad that I found you. I heard that you’re treating a guy who saw the shooter and I wanted to ask him some questions.”
“Where’s Will?” you snapped.
“What do you mean? He took Justin today, remember?”
“Yes, but where? Where he wanted to take him?”
“Millennium Park. As always, what happened?”
“Please tell me that you’re joking Jay.” tears were willing up in your eyes. You were breathing heavily and if Jay wasn’t right in front of you, you would probably collapse. “J-jay… The shooting. It all happened in Millennium Park.”
“I’m calling your dad, stay here and try again, call Will.” he kissed you deeply and went to make a call.
You stayed there, wondering what happened to Justin and obviously Will. Something was trying to tell you that maybe he wasn’t there anymore, that they went home. But David? He said that some doctor was there. You were praying that he wasn’t talking about Will.
“Y/N? Hey, what happened?” April asked.
“My son and Will, we don’t know where they are and god, April, what if something bad happened?” you cried. He hugged you tight and went with you to the break room. “April? Can you find Jay and tell him that David Brooke from trauma 3 was there and he saw a doctor helping people after the shooting? Maybe it was Will and he knows something.”
“Yes, of course, I’ll be right back.” you sat there, thinking about Justin and where is he now. Little boy, only 3 months old… You couldn’t focus on anything, but after a while, Jay and your dad, Hank appeared.
“Did you find anything? Please say that they’re okay.” Voight hugged you.
“David described this doctor from the park. Description matches to Will, but… Justin wasn’t with him.” you knew that Jay was tough but now, it was different. Tears filled his eyes, you stood up and collapsed into his arms.
“Oh my god, that’s Will?” your dad said. You looked from away to the hallway, where you saw Will barely standing with blood all over his head. Jay ran to him and you were right after him.
“Man, what the hell happened?! Where’s our baby?” Jay helped him sit in a wheelchair and Maggie brought him to trauma 2.
“I-I, we were in the park, I was talking to him and I heard gunshots, so I wanted to hide and- and then, all I remember is that I felt something on my head, everything went black and when I woke up, he wasn’t there.” now you lost it. You cried harder and nothing could help you. “I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault, I shouldn’t be brought him there, he’s so little, he-”
“Will, please, it’s not your fault, you didn’t know anything that was coming.” you squeezed his hand. Deep down in your heart, you felt bad that he was thinking in this way. He couldn’t do anything, now everything what matters was to find his and your beloved son.

Time passed by and there was any sign of baby Halstead. No one saw him, people were panicked, in shock and that was normal.
“Guys, I’m gonna go for a walk, maybe I’ll find something!” Jay said. He was sorrowful, couldn’t think straight, just like you. Voight told him to stay with you in case something would change. He stayed with you too, they couldn’t focus on work and Intelligence handled it anyway.
“I’m going with you!” you said. They all looked at you.
“That’s not gonna happen, baby. Please stay here, I’ll be right back.” he kissed your hair and hugged you.
“I’ll go. I was there so I know more.” Will appeared from nowhere.
“I think we can’t say anything to this!” Jay said.
•
“So you don’t remember anyone who was close to you in the park?” Jay was asking him questions that would help him find his and your son.
“No, no, I’m sorry.” Will looked at his brother and then they heard a silent cry. Baby cry. They followed the sound and saw a homeless lady holding baby in her arms.
“Shhh, I’ll keep you, kiddo,” she said.
“Excuse me? Is that your kid?” Jay asked her but she didn’t answer. She covered the baby with some old shirts more, they couldn’t see the face. “I’m sorry, but we’re looking for my son. He’s missing.” he continued.
“Wrong place and wrong person, better you should pay more attention to your son next time.” she snapped.
“He went missing after the shooting in Millennium Park. I was there with him.” Will took the advantage and continued. “I’m the one you should blame, but- Please, he’s only 3 months old, he needs his parents, medical treatment, we don’t know if anything happened to him.” she looked at him from the baby.
“Can I see the baby?” Jay asked her. They were standing there for almost 5 minutes, but she finally made her mind up. She showed them a little boy, wearing an orange jacket and a green beanie.
“Just like a little pumpkin!” they both said at the same time, just like in the morning The woman looked at them confused. “It’s Justin, my son.” Jay smiled and took him from her. “Hey my little, you must be hungry huh? Mommy will give you all the milk she has, as many as you want my pumpkin!” he said and hugged him into his jacket. They looked at the spot where they found him but there was no sign of the woman.

“Oh my god! My baby!” you ran to Jay when you saw him walking into ER. You took Justin from his arms and kissed his little forehead.
“A homeless woman found him, we don’t know how, where, or when, but he’s here and nothing bad happened.” you kissed Jay deeply, while your son started crying. “Oh, I almost forgot, I promised him that you’ll get him all the milk you have, I think he remembers.” you laughed at him.
“Thank you, Will. And please remember, it wasn’t your fault.” you hugged him. “Wanna give him a bottle uncle?” you asked him and went into the break room.
You had everything you wanted, a little family that one day will grow and that’s the best whatever happened to you.
