Julie tossed on her bed.
She sighed.
"All right, coming in just a moment," she shouted back, already formulating a plan in her brain.
She heaved herself off the bed, trudged down the stairs and took the plates to the table.
She felt her mind wandering; wandering to the past, to when her parents had been alive - before... Before...
Julie found herself frozen to the spot.
Frozen with... Fear.
She felt a hand on her shoulder.
"I know what you're thinking about," Alex whispered. His voice wasn't cold anymore. It was... sad. "We'll never forget that. We'll never forget... What happened."
Julie could hear his voice wavering slightly. She knew it pained him most to talk about it, and that, no matter how much he hid it, he would always feel the most pain.
"But I swear... On my life... That I'll never let it happen again. Ever again. Not to you. Not to anyone."
She felt his hand leave her. She felt him walk away, and heard him trying to hide a silent sob.
