Different?
Before he had had more of a sense of humor. He had been a more outgoing, free-spirited person; but now he was, all of a sudden, silent. Dark. Serious.
This wasn't the Tom she'd met in the street a yesterday.
So what if they'd only known eachother for a short time? Julie felt as if she'd known him her whole life.
But now it was as if he had a whole other side to his personality. One that she'd never seen before.
They ran together, silently, round the back of the elevator.
Tom seemed to be breathing more heavily.
He inhaled sharply, and pressed his ear against the wall.
Julie knew what he was doing - he was working out the position of the lift.
Suddenly there was a shout.
"Hey! They're the ones from before!" One of the men shouted.
Julie couldn't work out which one said it. Her heart pounded against her ribcage, as if it was trying to escape.
Tom had already jabbed the lift button multiple times by now, cursing under his breath.
The men ran towards them, and Julie could do nothing but just stare, frozen, defenceless, gripping Tom's hand tightly.
"Alex... you were right all along..." she whispered under her own breath.
