月墳曆337年，非德洛斯大陸各地的墳墓突然出現許多未知的扭曲生物，這些生物毫無任何情感，扭曲的外表充斥著殺意，牠們開始攻擊人類生活的居住地，然而無人知道其原因，人類只能靠著不純熟的武器抵禦這些未知的存在，月墳曆475年，人類強國托密爾共和國於七國會議中宣告最終戰線西德恩戰線淪陷，托密爾共和國的失土均被改造成無人區墳場，對此人類只能將國土遷移到諾伊德峽谷後方，以天然的屏障阻隔這些未知的生物，然而這些生物卻慢慢的改造峽谷，甚至每十年都會發動一次總攻擊，人類存亡與否由這峽谷決定，月墳曆516年，七國共同研發的天眼監視儀突然在墳場中見到滿地的生物屍體，並且有些許揹著棺材的人，一周後大量的揹棺人入境各國，同年三月七日，在一次抵禦中揹棺人現身協助人類軍隊並表現出非同小可的戰鬥力，他們背上的棺材能變形成各種武器，而且對這些生物的效果極高，戰鬥結束後，幾位宣稱自己是守墓人領袖的人晉見七國皇帝，這才知道這些揹棺人的真實身分是專門獵殺這些生物的獵人，並且以各氏族為集團，其背上的棺材則是被稱為「棺」的多變形兵器，而這些生物則是「墓鬼」
