The three of us enter the room and come face to face with the Alpha and Lucas. Alpha Nate is standing behind his desk and Lucas... well, Lucas is just being Lucas. It's the only way I can describe it. When he sees me, he rushes towards me with his arms spread out like a damn bird. As he gets closer I stick my hand out and face palm him on his forehead. 160Please respect copyright.PENANAM514pmwwe9
"Ouch," is all he says as he rubs his forehead. I squint my eyes at him; silently question how he got here. All he does is look at me sheepishly as the Alpha's voice booms around the office.160Please respect copyright.PENANAZ9YNwsrES3
"Lacy, Kaden," is all he says to dismiss the two guards. I look back to them to thank them for getting me here. All they do is nod in response before leaving the three of us alone.
"What the hell, Lucas," I say to break the silence.160Please respect copyright.PENANAbD3PWA3vfC
Before he tells me what happened, he rubs the back of his neck, "let me explain. But we're waiting for one more to show up."
I pinch the bridge of my nose before I sit down, "I need a drink," is all I say. I feel my sleep deprivation start to kick in as I tilt my head back.
"This can wait until morning," the Alpha says. This wakes me up as if a bucket of iced cold water was just thrown on me.
"No. I need answers now," I demand as I jump to my feet. At this very moment, the door opens and I'm on high alert. 160Please respect copyright.PENANAVCbNT4ygTC
"Sorry, to keep you waiting," Gamma Roddrick says gruffly, "had to finish my rounds."
"Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on," I sound like a brat but at this moment I really don't care. The Alpha just looks at me with pleading eyes. But instead of saying anything, he just keeps quiet.
It's Lucas who says, "you'll need to sit down for this, Ri. Maybe even get yourself a drink before we start. You're not going to like this."
All I do is roll my eyes as I fall into the chair I was just sitting on. I'm tired and I'm irritable. Not to mention, I haven't had some good blood since I left the damn place. I just want answers and these dumbass guys are making it really hard for me.
"Well, Lucas, I'm sitting. Now tell me how you got here when I thought The Truth took you."
"Ouch, that hurts more than your face palm," he says holding his hands over his heart, "how could you think I could be captured that easily. So little faith."
I roll my eyes while he shakes his head. I catch a glimpse of the Alpha. He has a ghost of a smile lining his lips. Almost as if he's enjoying this interaction. I quickly turn my focus back to Lucas as he starts to explain;160Please respect copyright.PENANAv4HfArEseF
"As long as you don't interrupt me, Ri. I know how you love asking questions mid TEDtalk," he says and I just roll my eyes at his antics. If I keep this up, my eyes will be rolled so far back into my eye sockets I won't be able to see again.
"Fine, I promise to ask questions later."
"Okay, so while you were still recovering from the devil's juice," he starts and I look wearily at him but he puts his hand up to stop me from interrupting.
"The black substance," he elaborates.
"Anyways, while you were passed out, the three of us got to talking. And we were worried about you and what you went through so we did a bit of digging and came up with a plan," he pauses to gage my reaction, "this is where you might get angry." My eyes narrow at this but I keep my mouth shut, mostly because I don't have the energy for arguments right now.160Please respect copyright.PENANAKjkY0bvRfi
"So I knew you'd pull a stunt like trying to escape because it's not like you to stay down especially with Kora being involved in this mess. With the help of Madalyn, we were able to get a copy of the treaty and what the plan is regarding this impending war," he pauses.160Please respect copyright.PENANAsZsh6USAde
"...and?" I get impatient.
"Sorry, I was pausing for a dramatic effect," he smirks.
"You're a dramatic effect," I mumble to myself. At this, the Alpha coughs trying to cover up what I can only imagine to be a laugh.160Please respect copyright.PENANAqpxX3C7WEX
"Anyway," Lucas draws out, "turns out The Ancients have no intention of ever stopping the war. They just want to watch the world burn."
"WHAT?!" I yell.
"They're immortal. They're probably bored or something," Lucas responds at my outburst.
"I hear they're even making and taking bets on who will win this war," Roddrick says from behind me. He's been so quiet I even forgot that he was in the room with us.
This makes me angry, "we're talking about lives here!"
"Well, actually, we're technically dead," Lucas pitches in.
"Semantics," I say automatically.
In that moment, I turn to the Alpha, "what are we going to do?"160Please respect copyright.PENANAKwFg862AeU
"We?" he questions.
"Who are you and what have you done to my best friend," Lucas says in the background which forces me to look back at him.
"What do you mean?" I ask curiously.
"You were so gung-ho on doing all this yourself - 'me this and me that'", he tries to mimic me. And fails miserably.
"First of all, I don't sound like that," I say as I cross my arms over my chest in a huff, "and secondly, I just think it's a good idea to have back up."
I look at the Alpha before continuing, "you know, in case something goes wrong. And besides, right now, four heads are a lot better than one."
"She's got a point," Roddrick pipes in, "and now that we know The Ancients don't have our best interests in mind, we need to send word out to the others to create a super army."
"But that could be difficult since we can't exactly attack the humans," Alpha Nate responds, "especially when the outcome is death."
He rubs his temples trying to think of a plan.
"What if we don't kill them," I say without thinking. All three of them just stare at me like I've gone insane, "hear me out for a second. What if we use magic to, ya know, put them to sleep?" The last part comes out more as a question.
"That could be a good idea," Alpha Nate says thinking over my plan.
"Well, it's the only plan we've got," Lucas announces enthusiastically.
"What were you thinking?" Roddrick questions me curiously.
"Well, since the treaty states that we're not allowed to kill humans why not use magic to put them to sleep. They won't see it coming because they won't expect it. And while they're comatose, we could use that time to appeal to The Ancients."
"You don't understand, Ri," Lucas interjects, "there's no appealing to The Ancients because they're the ones that want this war to happen."
"I hate to say this, but he's right," Alpha Nate agrees, "our only hope out of this alive is to break the treaty ourselves."
"It could end badly, though," Roddrick reasons, "once that treaty is broken, there's no going back. I can guarantee that supernaturals will exact their revenge on the humans for the years of ill treatment. It could result in the extinction of humans."160Please respect copyright.PENANAqgWAk9ydMA
"Would you rather humans go extinct or supernaturals suffering for eternity?" I question, "because let me tell you something, Gamma. Being tortured isn't a walk in the park."
The Gamma clenches his jaw tightly but before he could say anything, there's a knock at the door.
