I am not going to die.
I grip the rod and in one hand and the other pushes the door open. I am getting out of here, Hazel needs me, mother needs me, so I can’t die. Esmond sucks in a breath behind me, and I freeze as I stare at the scene in front of me.
Three men stand at the exits, but one man wipes the blood from his knife on his shirt. Rage fills me as I see a crumpled corpse at his feet. It’s the little girl, the girl who I stood up for, bleeds out on the cold linoleum floor. The man wiped the blood away as if it was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Without thinking, I have the gun loaded and cocked in my hand, shoot it.
“Sloane, what the heck are you doing?” Esmond whispers feverishly, but I can’t hear anything beyond the roaring in my ears. He killed her, she was innocent.
“Stop it!” He whispers, shouts, but I can’t. I am going to get out of here, even if I have to kill someone. Woah Woah Woah, wait a second, killing? I don’t know if I can do that, but staring at the man in front of me makes killing seem easy.
I pull the trigger.
The bullet strikes the man hovered over the little girl’s corpse right in the shoulder. He screams out in agony, and all three guys converge on us. How the heck am I going to get all these people out of here? Alive.
“Esmond, go get the people together, and lead them to the exits, I’ll take care of these guys.” I force out through clenched teeth as my fist rams up into the first masked man. Still feel Esmond hovering behind me, and frustration tinged with desperation bubbles in my stomach.
“GO!” I shout and twist the man’s wrist back, I don’t see the foot flying for my gut. I stumble backward, but then I remember something, I have a bloody gun. I cock it and send a bullet flying to hit the masked man in the hip. He screams and I swiftly send my elbow into his temple. Two men run at me and panic and adrenaline course through my veins, this is just like self-defense training, I just have to keep my head. Literally.
“I’ll kill you, bitch.” The man seethes and I bare my teeth back. I am not going down without a fight, so he can try his best.
“You can try.” I snap, and he charges at me, knife in hand. I go through the steps of a maneuver I learned in self-defense. I kick the man in the diaphragm, wrestling the knife from his hand. My palm slams into his nose, and he falls to the floor.
“Sloane!” Esmond shouts, and I look at him, but a burning pain races up the back of my skull. I stumble forward and trip over rows of benches.
“You thought you could get rid of me that easily?” A familiar voice asks, and I crane my head back to see Sir, smiling at me. Crap. My head pounds and it hurts to move, but I can’t die. I look at Esmond and see him quickly helping people out, but keeps looking back at me, torn.
“Get to the police.” I force out, and he opens his mouth to protest, but whatever is on my face, stops him. My hands are roughly yanked back, and I’m tossed over a shoulder. Pain reverberates through my body as a needle is shoved into my skin. I can’t move, and my muscles lack strength as I try to force myself off this monster.
“Goodnight, my little demon.” Sir whispers as black clouds my vision. The last thing I see before whatever he injected me with is the blue of Esmonds eyes as his mouth opens in horror.
Darkness sucks me under.

Sloane told me to worry about the people, but what about her? I run a hand through my hair, torn between getting the people to safety and finding Sloane. I carry an elderly woman on my back as we escape the train station.
“Go to the police,” I say and a middle-aged man nods, taking the group of people and leading them out.
“Thought you could get away?” One of the masked men asks, and my lungs seize in panic. My first instinct is to call for Sloane, but she’s gone. Probably dead by now. The man doesn’t wait for an answer but runs at me, a knife in hand. I’m frozen, what do I do? My eyes are wide as I grab onto the closest thing I can and bring it as hard as I can down on his head. The man falls to the ground and blood seeps out of the gash on his forehead. I stare at the object in my hand in horror. A sharp metal pipe clatters to the ground as I drop it. Oh god, did I kill him?! I check his pulse and let out a relieved sigh at the thrum I feel under my fingers. I drop the pipe and bolt out of this forsaken place.
But... Sloane. She was up against four people, and I just ran. Well, helping people out, but that took barely any effort. The police would be able to get her right? But what if she’s already dead? I grip my head trying to figure out what to do. Ughh. I run a hand through my hair again and sprint to the police station. They will be able to help better than I will. “I need help!” I shout and find the policeman closest to me, latching onto his arm like an insane person. But hey, panic makes you do crazy things. The police waste no time listening to my brief cover of the last few hours. We and a team of police officers race to the train station and I fling open the doors.
There is not a sound, nothing but at least 6 corpses and four wounded masked men.
“No, no, this can’t be right. Where is she!?” I yell, hysteria tinging my voice. My thoughts are frayed, and I fling open every door, every single nook, and cranny, tears burning my eyes. She told me to go, told me to save everyone, while she handled the real problem.
But...sir got her.
“We’ll find her.” The policeman comes up to me and I shake my head. I must have missed something, I have to have a piece of information that will help me solve this case, but I have nothing. Where would he have taken her?
“You need to go to the hospital, we will take it from here.” I shake my head again, I can’t breathe. I can’t leave this place yet, she has to be here.
“Sloane!” I scream at the top of my lungs, my eyes are wide and frantic. She’s dead because I was too weak to help. Too much of a fucking coward. Broad hands clamp over my shoulders and turn me towards the exit.
“I know you’re in shock right now, but we need to get you to a hospital.” No! She has to be here, she can’t be dead. I grip my hair and try to breathe through stone lungs.
“No, no, I can’t. Sloane has to be alive.” I say, a tear rolling down my cheek. I can’t do this anymore, these last few hours are finally catching up to me. Sloane sacrificed everything for us, me...no, I can’t think like that. She is still alive.
“You have to come with us.” I let the men all but drag me back, my eyes never leaving the train station doors, or the innocent bodies within.
I overhear a conversation between two police officers as I pass.
“We found a girl’s body, brown hair, green eyes, and in a ripped black dress.”
Everything goes black.
